  • Planning on shampooing my car's floor and seats

Hey everyone, this week, along with washing, polishing and waxing my ride, I was planning on doing something I haven't done in over a year and that's shampooing my car's floorboard and seats.

Just this time, I really want to do it right. The last time I did it I used a non Meguiars brand car upholstery cleaner (the ones that come in a aerosol can with a brush attached at the top of it for scrubbing).

Since I've become more of dedicated in keeping my car looking it's best and since I"m even thinking about getting into the car detailing business, I wonder what the Meguiars specialists here recommend as far as what products and what methods are best as far as cleaning, removing stains, and removing all the embedded dirt particles out of a car's floor and seats.

My car has no leather in the interior it's all fabric. and as far as I know I don't have hardly any stains inside but mostly there is just some embedded dirt in the front seat floorboards and maybe just a tiny bit in the seats.

I've also have seen videos of other non Meguiars car people who show you how to shampoo your car's upholstery and to me it looks either half hear-ted or even hamful to the car's upholstery.

So any advice as well as product recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your time.

A carpet extractor would be nice.

Yeah that does sound like something I do need to get. And plus I found some info on Meguiars upholstery and carpet sprays too so those two things helped a lot.

Search in the Results section for Tuck91's Post's and look for anything dealing with interior. He does killer work.

What I tend to do is 2 things.

        1) When it comes to cloth floor mats. Very simple.
        - Dry brush and vaccume
        - Spray down with All Purp. Cleaner from Meguiar's aka APC
        - Mist with water
        - Apply directly ample amount of clothing detergent (I use Gain)
        - Put into washer, run Hot/Cold
        - Remove and set out in sun to dry. Gets about 90-95% correction first time.
        - Clean washer barrel and do not tell wife/mother lol.

        2) When it comes to the carpet.
        - Decide whether you need to pull the seats.
        - Dry brush/vac
        - Use a OTC (over the counter) spot cleaner for bad areas or All Purp. Cleaner PLUS (APC+)
        - Various brushes and water start spraying and scrubbing and misting.
        - Using a good extractor, rinse, extract, repeat
        - Using cloth towels, dab and rub as dry as possible.
        - Worse comes to worse, when done, turn car on, run high blasting heat, close windows, let run for 30 minutes. Gets most of the moisture out.

Mine is not the only way but sometimes we do not have ALL the tools. I will say though APC and APC+ are invaluable tools that will get the majority of the correction.
