  • Bird dropping --> patch on the car

    Hi All,

About a week ago a bird dropped the top of my car in three different places. This weekend was a sunny hot one and the droppings were on my car for about a day. After I removed them for my surprise I could still see the patch of the droppings.

I tried to remove the patch, but as you can imagine I couldnt. The next day I went to the experts who told me that there is a very good chance that the patch will disappear if they polish the part where the patches are, so they did that. All in all after the polishing the patches seemed to disappear and I was happy. I looked at the problematic part from different angles for minutes, could not see anything.

Yesterday when I walked around my car for my surprise I could see the damn patches the birds caused on the top again The biggest one was clearly there if you watched closely from some angles the two smaller ones as well but hardly noticable.

I called the guy today who did the polishing and told me to go back tomorrow so that they try to polish the surface again and lets see if the patch can be removed entirely or not. If they do not succeed the only solution could be to repaint the whole part where the droppings were on the car... Obviously thats the last thing I want to try...

Now my question is, do you think its worth to try some good products? The problem is that I am from Europe and its difficult for me to get to the products and could not find any good alternative here. As this is not so easy for me I would like to ask your opinion.

Do you think these products can solve the solution if the polishing doesnt? How do these work?

It all depends on the polish the shop used. It is possible that they used a very light cutting product with a lot of oils in it. This would have the benefit of temporarily hiding the etching but they would do very little to actually remove them. For that you need a paint cleaner with a bit of cut to level the surrounding area and truly eliminate the etching. This is something you should be able to do on your own using a product like Ultimate Compound even by hand.
