  • acid rain on truck glass

Hello.....new to the forum so I would appreciate any help you have. I just purchased an 06 F-150. Pristine condition and low miles BUT the truck had severe water marks on paint and glass. I was able to buff out the paint using Swirl X but no such luck on the glass. Would a rubbing compound be effective or maybe too severe for glass? Is there another product I should try?

Ult. Compound, #105, #4 would be fine to try for stuff on the surface of the glass. However, if it is etched into the glass, a paint cleaner wont remove it. Really is pretty hard to remove etchings from glass, have to let someone else help you there.

I'll second the recommendation for UC - I got great results using this with a DA on a 99 Camry this weekend. Claying helps a bit, as I can feel it pulling off some contaminants, but it really doesn't do anything to the water spots, although you could try using the aggressive red clay, I guess.

I used rubbing compound to remove the same thing from my '03 Ranger windows. I got the tip from a guy at an autoglass replacement company. It required a lot of 'passion' but it took it off and with RainX is has never come back.

A bit off topic here, but a solution of a bit of vinegar and dish soap tends to easily remove water spots. If they are etched in, then it's clay or compound time.
Careful not to get the soapy water on your paint though. I can't imagine it'd be good for it.
