  • Result of foam pad if it's not used properly...

Hi! what is the effect on the paint surface. for example:

    1. cutting pad ( red color) was used with a Polishing compound.
    2. Polishing pad (yellow color) was used with Meguiars Gold class wax.

Can it leave scratches or swirls on the paint?

I hope you were not using the Polishing Compound that comes in the tub by machine. That product is strictly for hand application. It's not that it will be overly aggressive but it simply will not play well by machine.

A Meguiars cutting pad may leave some hazing on the surface.

What are you trying to accomplish?

The effect is increased cutting abilities of the liquid/chemical you're using.

The burgundy foam cutting pad is not recommend for use with a DA. It could leave significant hazing behind. The yellow foam polishing pad paired with ultimate compound can take out heavy and severe swirls and scratches.

Waxes applied with the polishing pad adds cutting power. But why do you want to do this? You've already perfected the paint prior to applying your wax. Using the polishing pad with your wax could add some marring or minor swirls especially on very soft paint systems.

What results did you see after using these combinations? Is it safe to assume you did this with a DA and not a rotary?

We don't recommend use of the W7xxx series cutting pads with the DA as it has a high tendency to haze paint. While it may be necessary at times to step up to this pad to remove a more severe, isolated defect, you will most likely need to follow it with the W8xxx yellow polishing pad. For most correction work we would recommend the W8xxx series yellow polishing pad be used in conjunction with Ultimate Compound or similar products.

Applying a cleaner wax such as M06, D151 or similar can be done with the W8xxx yellow polishing pads, but if you're using a non cleaner wax like NXT, Gold Class, Ultimate Wax, etc you really are better off using the W9xxx black finishing pad. As has been stated, when it's time to apply wax your paint should be in the best possible shape, and you don't want or need to introduce anything aggressive to that paint when applying wax.

Even so, depending on how hard the paint is you may or may not see any marring of any kind using the combination you did. But overall, that is not our recommended "best practices" process. You really are better off stepping down one pad for each of those two steps.
