  • One Microfiber disc for all car?

    Hi Guys,

I just tryed the DA system on the bonnet of my car and love it. My question is, do you guys use one disc for all the car?

    Thanks in advance

I assume you are asking about the microfiber pads ? If the pad is kept clean then there is no reason one pad would not do a whole car. That is using one cutting pad and one polishing pad. Some of my m/f pads have done over a couple of dozen cars and still in great shape.

I like to use one cutting pad and one finishing pad for an entire car.

Sounds like he is using the BONNET that came with his DA?

LOL,,clean your disk often with air compressor or brush. Do not use to much compound.

While you certainly can use a single cutting disc for the entire car, it is critically important that you work as clean as possible. That means cleaning that disc after every section pass, not just every panel. Compressed air is the best for this, but a good pad brush or a pad washer can work well too. One thing you do want to be aware of, however, is heat buildup. If you're working really aggressively you can easily start to build heat on the hook & loop material holding the microfiber disc to the backing plate. It's not a bad idea to swap back and forth between a couple of discs to prevent this heat build up from starting to cause any issues.

Going along with Mike's idea, it might be best to use a 2nd backing plate along with the 2nd MF pad as well to avoid that heat build up Mike mentions.

                    Having experienced heat related issues

keep it clean and switch correction pads
not nearly as much heat is built up waxing so its not needed with the finishing pad

Although heat is a big factor but by no means the only one. Using one pad the other day and only finishing 1/2 car in 3 hrs I constantly cleaned the pad and checked if it was getting warm. It was not warm at all but before finishing for the day it came apart. After some inspection it did not come unglued at all but backing (sponge) was deteriorating. Now, that is only my observation and opinion. In any case nothing lasts forever and this pad was previously used twice.Maybe I used excessive pressure for short duration which will damage the pad but not necessarily get hot.If I would have used PC instead of G110v2 perhaps this would not have happened since pc would just quit spinning with pressure I applied. LOL

Re: One Microfiber disc for all car?

I always use at least two microfiber discs per car. I don't want to sacrifice their performance and switch to a clean one often.

If you ever use DA Microfiber Correction System with forced rotation D/A polisher then changing your microfiber discs is super important.
