  • 1970 Black Roadrunner, 3yr old repaint with clear, with hazing and swirls

Up until now I have done all OEM paints. I have a friend with a 1970 Roadrunner that was repainted 3 yrs ago with clear coat and has haze and swirls from the using a unknown product. You can see the hazing and swirls in the pictures.

Looking for some advice on what products and pads I should use.

Currently have Megs 105, 205 and D300 along with Adams swirl and haze remover and Adams fine machine polish. I also have Adams Green,Orange, White and black pads along with Megs MF cutting and Finishing pads for my PC 7424 XP. Megs recommends only using the D300 and MF pads on OEM paints.

I was thinking to start with the white pad and the Megs 205 polish or Adams polish at setting 5 and if that doesn't work then move up to the orange or green pad. Then the Adams swirl and haze remover with orange and then green. If that doesn't work then the Megs 105 compound with a white pad and then maybe orange. Thoughts???

Sorry, used camera phone and the pics aren't that great but they are def. noticeable in the sunlight.

    Yeah, pretty much.

Sometimes a repaint can be a bit softer, or a lot softer, but all you can do is start mild and see what happens.

Your plan sounds like a good idea, starting with the least aggressive combination and working up if needed As Mat points out, some aftermarket paints can be quite easy to work with. As an example, the '68 Dodge Charger from Sweden that was part of out SEMA International Showcase was full of holograms when we got a hold of it a week before SEMA. Heck, it still had some sanding marks in it. We got rid of the sanding marks with the DA Microfiber System and then went after the holograms and any haze from the DA system with M205 on a W9207 foam finishing pad. That alone not only cleared everything up, but made the metallic flakes really pop and was the perfect prep for Ultimate Wax paste.

Mike, can I use the DA MF system on this repaint? I was under the impression it was for OEM paints?

        Thanx for your help

You can certainly try a test spot with it. It could be strong and leave hazing.
