  • question: waterless wash & wax + conventional waxes/sealants

Thanks to everyone on here who takes the time to help others out answering questions.

I have another one. Ok so we know in general Carnauba waxes dont last as long as sealants but provide a better shine and look. From what i've been reading waxes on average last about 3 months where sealants are more in the 6 month range.

Can cleaning your car using the waterless wash&wax method help prolong the protection of either the carnauba or sealant?? ie: can using waterless wash/wax take a 3month lasting wax out 6 months or longer?? and same with the sealants?

    Thanks in advance

I'm not so sure that waxes/sealents last quite as long as you say.... But.... Meguiars' new wash and wax product being released soon will not only clean your vehicle, it will also leave a layer of protection behind. This will prolong the life of your LSP you laid down. Spray waxes will help in the same way. They will work even better at prolonging a wax or sealent on your vehicle. Some people spray wax weekly, or after they wash thier car. Something to think about. It definitely keeps your cars finish looking its best.

Thx for the reply. Oops, yes.. i have a tendency to believe what they say on the bottle =D

I use a waterless wash & wax to clean my car and others and was just wondering if the typical wash & wax formula can prolong the LSP whether it be a wax or sealant or does it clean away some LSP then lightly replace it keeping the original estimated life the same or less?

If you touch the surface with anything, you are going to remove some wax... The good car washes will be designed to remove as little as possible.

So yes, using a spray wax type product after your rinseless wash would still be a good idea.

A wash & wax alone won't truly extend the protection for a noticeable length of time, they're really more about gloss enhancing or reducing the level of gloss lost over time than adding any serious protection. A good spray wax, like Ultimate Quik Wax, that contains some durable polymers will do a much better job of extending your wax protection. Essentially, though, you're asking if it can possibly double that protection, and we'd say no. Regardless whether any claims of protection duration are valid or not, it's asking a lot of a spray wax - and asking way too much of a wash & wax - to double the durability of a liquid or paste wax. By the way, we never state a time frame for protection with our waxes because there are so many variables; If "Person A" and "Person B" both wax their cars with the same wax and "A" then only takes it out for an hour once a month and the rest of the time it's kept in a garage where temperature and humidity are both moderate, while "B" drives his car on wet, salted roads 100 miles a day, "A" may see 6 months out of that wax while "B" only sees 2 weeks. Same wax, very different outcomes.
