  • Help Correcting this Paint

Not sure if wet sanding is necessary, I would like to try to try to keep this to a buffing and polishing job but not sure if it would fix it. Help would be great! Btw have a Flex3401 with Lake Country pads, and megs compounds and polishing.

Don't see any reason why you'd need to wet sand that.

What polishes / compounds do you currently have?

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

      Hi Josh,

      Welcome to MOL!

One of my favourite cars you have there. Great torque!

From the pics you have there I don't see anything too drastic. You should be able to correct these marks with your Flex quite easily.

You say you have Meguiars compounds and polishes. Which ones specifically do you have? There are variances in the use of individual products, so it will help to give better advice.

Personally I would suggest either Ultimate Compound or M105, however the Microfibre Correction System would work great here too.

The flex/megs compounds should be more than capable of removing those. I wouldn't wet sand at all, again do a test spot to find the best combo for your paint problems

I have m105, m85, m205 and new car glaze. The thing is this is slightly textured and all over the roof as well. I didn't think it would need wet sanding but just wanted to make sure.

Like I said its my own personal car and I'm starting a detail business and I figured fixing this would be great advertisment on its own. Been reading a lot and I've already done a few cars and know how to work the DA well. In the last picture I had taken I had actually clayed and lightly buffed it to see if it would help with Ultimate Compound but didn't do much but did restore some of the shine and blue of the car.

Also thanks guys for the replies!

As has been mentioned, no need to wet sand that at all. Ultimate Compound on your Flex forced rotation tool should knock that down fairly easily. Below are images of a brand new Audi TT that was brought to one of our Saturday Class last summer. The dealer had inflicted worse holograms that you have on your car, as you can see from these two images:

Using just a G110v2, W8207 Soft Buff 2.0 polishing pad and some Ultimate Compound we got rid of this mess pretty quickly.

We even did an IPA wipedown just to prove to everyone there that we didn't simply fill the defects. We then turned the G110v2 over to the car owner to finish the rest of the quarter panel, which he did beautifully.

If you've got the Flex 3401 and a polishing pad then we would think UC would yield similar results for you on your car.

I already tried with UC and my PorterCable 7424xp. Got rid of the light scratches and swirls but barely fixed the areas in the pics.

For as great a tool as the 7424XP is, it is seriously lacking in power. Our G110v2 has a lot more punch that it does, and so does your Flex forced rotation tool. Try the Flex with a polishing pad and UC and see how much faster and how much more effectively you remove those swirls.
