Best way to polish painted satin/matte black wheels?

They aren't clearcoated, just looks to be single-stage satin/matte black paint. Ford OEM 20" wheels.

Bought them from another forum and they gathered a few light scuffs during shipping and not sure how to clean them up back to new (they are new). The object here isn't to produce a real shine or anything.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Im thinking I would remove them from the truck,clean them up really nicely and try some products on the backside

Well a most unlikely setup seems to have removed my very fine scuffs. A MF cloth and some Ultimate Compound (megs) and a little hand action. Wiped off the remainder after about 30-60 seconds of small circular motions and they can't be seen any longer.

No extra shine was introduced, so I'm not sure what it is with the paint, low-gloss clearcoat perhaps?

Very interesting...... if that's a matte/satin finish we would have expected UC to create a glossy spot (or at least glossy-er!). Are these Ford factory wheels? If so, they should have a clear of some kind on them, and there certainly are matte clear coats, but using an abrasive product on them will start to create a shiny spot. They could be powder coated, but that surface usually doesn't lend itself to correction like traditional paint does. But... no matter we suppose since you're process delivered the desired result. Still, a bit of a head scratcher here!

Factory wheels, painted.

It's a satin clear coat. They actually put additives in the clear to "fog" it and keep it flat. There was an episode on power block tv that they used it and did a walk thru of the process.

Are you speaking specifically about these Ford wheels or a low-gloss clear in general on the show?

They were showcasing it on a 72 cuda I believe but it's starting to get more popular with vehicles such as the newer mustangs, camaro ss, and a couple of the dodges from the factory. If you used UC and it didn't put on a shine it's most likely what you are dealing with.

Bumping an old thread but relevant question.

I bought aftermarket matte black wheels and when they were being mounted/balanced, some of the paint was chipped off. They gave me a Dupli-color flat black touch-up pen. I filled the chips in, and then sanded them down back to the correct height. This left a haze on the wheels (I was using 3000grit I think
