If it's a liquid wax you can quickly check if it's OK - shake it up really well and check the consistency. It should be smooth and creamy, sort of like a hand lotion. If it's very watery or lumpy, or it has a terrible odor, it's gone bad and shouldn't be used (it won't hurt anything to use it, but it just won't be very user friendly, may not dry properly, etc). But if has a smooth, even consistency and it smells the way you would expect a wax to smell, then it's perfectly fine no matter how old it is.

If it's a paste wax, as long as it's not completely dried out and crumbling in the tin, it's still good to go.

Out of curiosity, which wax of ours is it?

What's the consistency like? Give it a good shake first. If it's thin (or watery) then it's bad and you should throw it away. If it's still viscous then it should still be ok.

What kind of wax is it anyway? If it's 9-10 years old then it means the wax is using old technology. You might want to check Meguiar's latest and greatest wax: Ultimate Wax.

Liquid wax,but now the consistency is more watery than is supposed to be,probably I will need to shake well.

        Thanks

Liquid products, including waxes, polishes, paint cleaners, etc will tend to separate over time - that's normal. If they do not mix back together after a good shaking, then they've gone bad. If they do mix back together then they're still good. And that mixing back together should happen pretty quickly, too.

i've been debating on buying a gallon of M66....or should I buy a smaller bottle of ColorX....all i have to work on are my 3 vehicles. I figure a gallon of M66 will last me 10 yrs?
If i give the gallon of M66 a good shake once a week ....would it last 10yrs? Currently all my detail supplies are kept in a relatively cool area inside my house.....

My gallon of M83/M82/M80 all went bad after 5 years or so but they were all kept in the garage and the temperatures here in summer reach 115F. If it's kept indoors then it might last longer.

I would highly suggest buying smaller quantities if you're detailing your personal vehicles. You will use it far less than you think. But M66 isn't available in quantities less than a gallon.
