  • Thoughts on Dr. ColorChip Paint Chip repair kit

I have a few minor spots spread across my car (black Acura) that are pretty noticeable when it is clean. Someone recommended the Dr. ColorChip Paint Chip Repair kit and told me that it would make these spots unnoticeable.

Has anyone ever used this before?

We've seen it in action here outside our offices and, when done right, it's a pretty darn remarkable system.

I am about to order the Dr. Colorchip for my 2008 Acura TL - Nighthawk Black Pearl. It's black, but when you get it in the sunlight it has small blue pearl flakes in it.
Everything I have read has been good, with varying degrees of success. You can buy it directly from their site http://www.drcolorchip.com/

I also looked at http://www.langka.com/ but it seems to mee that the Dr. Colorchip may be easier to use?

I'd also be interested to hear about others experience with either one of these products or suggestions for others.

How many chips are you trying to repair?
If not many, then that $60 may be overkill.
Go to http://www.drcolorchip.com/ and enter your car manufacturer/model/year
Then you will be directed to 3 kits to choose from once you select your car color.
Repairs up to a dozen chips - Price: $39
Repairs up to 2 dozen chips - Price: $49
Repairs more than 2 dozen chips - Price: $59

I ordered the $39 kit and have used it several times on my wife's Accord. It says a dozen chips but I must have repaired at least two dozen by now and still have enough to do two dozen more. I purchased another package of the microbrushes (microbrush.com) from a local hobby shop. The system works petty good.

I used the DR. Colorchip last weekend and it worked as advertised. I had some decent sized rock chips and several small spots that I repaired, I counted 40 spots. I bought the small kit and still have enough supplies left to do another hundred or so repairs. I did not have any road rash to repair, I imagine that would have eaten up a lot of paint.
I am happy with the system, it is much easier than using a touch up pen, letting it dry, wetsanding, and polishing out the sanding marks and the results are about the same. Keep in mind that it will not "level" a chip out, you will still see the chip but it will be painted. Stand a few feet back and it all disappears.

Could the DR Colorchip system be used by Duplacolor paint ie apply, smear, polish out?

As for the "levelling" out of the chip. Will it not depend how deep the chip is? If the chip is like 0.01mm deep, the paint should be able to level it out right?

                    I don't know Larry.
The paint that came with the system APPEARED to me like normal paint. I think it dried faster than other touch up paints I've used, hard to tell as I was using such a small amount per spot.

I believe their paint is actually a lacquer while the duplicolor is an enamel. Regardless this stuff is like compounds and polish; stay within the system for best results. I've used both Lanka and Dr. Colorchip. For me the Dr color chip produced much better results. The repair blends well and very hard to find. If you have metallics, pearl, or silver it's anyone guess as these are much harder to replicate, even factory jobs vary in appearance during a run.

I dont think so yuriko, any chip you can see has taken the clearcoat (1-2 mils) and the paint (5-7 mils). Asking touch up paint to fill that void in one application is really "ambitious". But I bet you could build it up with several, just like you would with regular touch up, only you may not have to sand and buff the spot using the DR. Colorchip. For my daily driver and my weekend toy I am satisfied with one coat, it hides the chip really well. If I had a high dollar show car I would go through the effort of multiple coats and go for level.

Just what I thought about multiple coats. Cheers mate.

Well I may be a newbie to this site but not a newbie to this product. Just thought I would share my thoughts for what it's worth. I've been a professional car detailer for 17 years and I've tried many products including Dr. color chips I have for the past year and a half been using the EZ chip repair paint chip repair. The shipping is fast the price is definitely cheaper and the quality and the color match is very good I use this on many cars silvers, blacks and whites, greens, reds, blues all with the same results however on the three stage colors like the white pearls and the tricolor reds it is a little more difficult but overall a good product. Just so are all clear here I don't have any relation to the company I don't know anybody in the company all I know is that I order the stuff and it works good just passing on my two cents

                            visit.

I also found a coupon code online for three dollars off so am posting it here for everyone. Use code below

                              hum.... what, ...."
                              and I've tried many products"
DCC is awesome. What are the "many" other products are you talking about?
This is your first post and your pushing a product. Seems a bit fishy.
Sorry if I'm wrong but seems fishy especialy with a coupon.
If your from EZchip just make a post. We want to learn new things here but fishy posts are fishy.
