Unknown spots on black paint

Hey guys, first I wanted to say I getting so addicted to this forum lots of info and the products are addicting. Now on to my problem, I have an '87 single stage black mustang with some unknown spots on the hood,roof, and trunk. They are not sticky nor can I feel them but they were not there before.

I tried wash it, M clay bar, M rubbing compound (not M105) by hand and DA with cutting pad, alcohol, bug and tar remover, and glass cleaner. It just doesn't come off, Do I need to step up to M105 and the rotary? I do have a 7" rotary with a wool pad but I never used M105. Here is what I'm talking about below:

Could be one or more of the notorious three: tree sap, bird bombs or water (irrigation) spots. I'm leaning towards tree sap.

Do a search on the word "etched" and wait around here for awhile and some folks will have some useful information later today.

Alright guys got up early yesterday and went to the nearest store that carried M105 which was 40 miles away. That is doing the trick with the rotary and a wool pad, After the 3rd pass the spots are nearly gone.
