  • Hazing , cloudy paint.

Hazing problem for a 2007 Metallic black VW GTI.

I've noticed a slight hazing problem with my paint. The paint condition is great, minimal swirls and scratches however; I can't seem to get rid of this slight haze.

I have also noticed small water stains when drying. They are not noticeable when the car is dry, only as I wipe it down after washing (even after a wax the week prior). Could this be the root of the haze? I am on city supplied water but even that could still contain minerals and the like for hard water.

I haven't clayed the car yet for spring, but I seriously don't recall those being there this past winter when last I did a full detail. Usual details includes M66, Or M66 & another Megs wax if I'm feeling froggy. The surfaces still feel smooth. The car is left to the elements, I have no garage. I rent so addition of water filter/softener is not likely.

Is there a possible cleaner wax stronger than M66 or a cleaner polish that could help? I'm not looking for more abrasives, just something to clear up paint.

FIREdawg, one possibility is maybe the M66 is a little aggressive, and marring the paint slightly. I had this problem with my black Ford Focus, and never figured out what it was until Mike Stoops had a post about a car they had in the garage that had really soft paint. I can now clear up the haze with ColorX and a finishing pad. My haze was ever so slight, but was visible. Another option could be some Ultimate Polish with a finishing pad. I would certainly clay 1st, as this might leave some slight haze, and this way you can remove that with either ColorX, or Ultimate polish. Anymore, I reach for regular old cleaner wax sometimes, it is even more gentle than ColorX.

You could also try M66 on a finishing pad.

Try UC or Meguiars classic polish, do not use a DA just use an applicator pad and work the product in and wipe off

I have been using yellow buff pad with M66. I suppose I could step down to a black finishing pad for second coat.

But that kinda defeats the purpose of a one step.

Not everything can be dealt with using just one step. A one step is always going to be a compromise so you have to decide what's more important to you - one step or an even better finish.
