  • How to Fix a Cloudy/Hazy Roof?

The roof on my 2005 Land Rover LR3 is cloudy and it is driving me crazy. I was wondering if there is any product to fix it or if the clear coat has started to fade away. When wet the area is not noticeable but dry it has a very hazy appearance.

I assume this can be fixed since the clear coat fading away on a 7 year-old luxury SUV would be ridiculous. The vehicle spends all of its time outdoors and to my knowledge hasn't encountered any low-hanging signs.

Here is a picture of the affected area:

It sure does look like it's clear coat failure. If this is the case then the only solution is to have the roof repainted.

If it's just oxidation, then Ultimate Compound with either foam applicator pad (by hand) or the W8207 Foam Polishing Pad (by D/A) should do the trick.

I would like to hear what the experts would suggest. You need to try and do a test spot. If using UC makes the dullness go away then it's just oxidation. But if it doesn't go away then it's CC failure.

Let us know how it goes. Hope this helps.

Thats clear coat diying, a little sanding, then compound polish and wax will make it looks better, i should use m105 and m205 with 1500,2000,3000 sanding paper and you will notice a very good finish but some spots still have noticeable clear coat damage (but only when you look it in detail)

Another LR3 Owner Having the Same Problem

Looks like it is clear coat failure. Ridiculous considering the original cost of this vehicle.

This can happen on any vehicle that is left outside 24/7 and not properly cared for, especially on a neglected roof. My D2 has almost flawless paint 13 years after it came off the line because it's seen nothing but Meguiar's several times a year. If you have to get a step ladder, you need to get up and give the high spots attention too!

Just for the record - unless you really know what you're doing with sandpaper and a rotary buffer, we highly discourage just jumping into such an advanced process. We've seen too many people watch YouTube videos showing a pro doing these things, and then get into serious trouble when they attempt it on their own. A true pro can make even the most advanced processes look like child's play - but that's because they've got years of experience and fully understand both the upside and the downside to the process.
