  • New truck! 1st bath t-minus 36hours!

ok guys, got my new ride FINALLY!!! thank god i got rid of that pos chevy. I need to look at the build date, but im sure i need to wait at least a couple months for waxing. Ill put a list of the supplies i have on hand, and i really dont wanna go buy more stuff so dont hurt my feelings.. ford already did that lol

    Meguairs Ultimate Wash and wax
    Adams Car shampoo
    26
    16
    7
    nxt 2.0
    deep crystal polish
    ultimate compound
    deep crystal clay
    smooth surface clay kit
    quick detailer
    quick wax

yes..i know.. im running severely low on supplies but thats what ive got handy. not counting interior and glass. what would you guys suggest for first time clean, and keeping it clean till i can get a good wax on it.? Also, What about the friggin bugs? i have one of those yellow scrub pads, the plastic'ish ones that they say wont hurt the paint. but im scared to use it. the last truck it actually pulled paint off BUT it was a **** non factory paint job too. (single base) so what kind of chemical and scrubber for those guys?

heres a pic of the truck!

Why not wax it already? If there are no inflicted swirls you can simply wash (adams, ultimate wash and wax will not be useful at this point, since claying will remove wax), Clay (smooth surface clay kit), apply a pure polish (M07 and Deep Crystal Polish basically serve the same purpose), apply NXT 2.0. Depending on what you're after you may apply #26 or #16 for more depth.

Maintain with a good carwash, and Ultimate wash and wax or adams will work well here. If you use a wash with wax like Ultimate wash and wax, you can skip using quik wax. After drying, then I'd use quik detailer to add shine and minimize any chance of water spots. If it has a light layer of dust, I may skip a carwash and just use quik detailer and maybe follow up with quik wax.

Since you're really dangerously running low on detailing stuff, why not get the Ultimates (Ultimate quik detailer and ultimate quik wax)? It's more advanced and should outlast the older or more origial maroon bottled quik detailer and quik wax.

well i had always read on this site the paint wasnt ready to wax for a while, so i was prepared to polish it. Also i do have the ulitmate quik wax, but just the deep crystal detailer. i use nothing but quick wax in the spray on my bikes. maybe a little detailer if there is serious bugs. but glass cleaner and quik wax is about it. there is a couple swirls im going to have to polish out. Thank the dealership for that. I asked them not to wash it at all, but it had already been done once before it was put on the lot.

Brand new cars' OEM paint is different to a repainted or refinished paint. With factory or OEM paint, go right ahead and wax it. For newly repainted panels, use only a glaze or pure polish (deep crystal or M07) for 30-90 days to allow the paint to cure properly. For swirls, you should do a test spot first with Ultimate Compound to gauge if the paint responds well to it. Suppose you established that the paint responds well to UC, you can follow it up with either M07 or DC Polish to add depth and clarity, this can also make the metallic flakes pop even more. Then NXT 2.0 for protection and will make the paint pop even more.

There's no need to wait before waxing an OEM paint job as the paint is applied and baked at very high temperatures well before assembly begins. Unless you are literally picking the new vehicle up at the factory the moment it rolls off the line, you should be perfectly fine waxing it the day you bring it home.

Congrats on the new truck - it looks great in your pictures so it wouldn't seem that it needs a whole lot of work done at the moment. We've seen cars fresh out of the showroom that need pretty serious correction, so count yourself lucky! Give it a proper wash and then evaluate the paint thoroughly, checking for both above surface bonded contaminants and below surface defects. Clay if needed, and then use whatever paint cleaner the paint responds best to (SwirlX, UC, etc) in order to remove any light swirls that may be present. A good once over with Ultimate Polish can do wonders to brighten up the gloss and even get the metallic really popping before waxing.

                lol. i hear ya.
one more question, besides the bugs. what do we use on the black pieces between the door glasses? ive always had problems with that black fading so i guess now would be a good time to take care of it.

You can use something like the Ult. Protectant on the black plastic.

I use a wet fabric softener sheet for bugs.
