  • For Anyone That Has A K&N Filter

Do you think that using super degreaser or APC to clean the filter is safe?

I don't know about you but I go through their cleaning solution a lot faster than their oiling solution. So I end up with having a lot of left over oil. I don't want to keep on buying their recharger kit every time I run out of their cleaning solution. So I was curious if anyone has safely used SD or APC without any adverse effects?

Anyone from Meg's want to chime in?

I'm in the same boat as you Marc, I wonder how a degreaser or APC would work... Makes me almost want to try it now, at a very low, or high? (not sure of the correct term) dilution ratio.

I dont wanna be the test dummy though lol

Yeah, I think I used between 1/3 - 1/2 of the cleaning solution.

Thanks Scott! You like the Si's too? I'm really enjoying the new to me 6MT. Plus I've never owned a coupe. I'm stoked in getting a 2 door!

I didn't know you can buy the cleaning solution separately and get free shipping. AFAIK, they charge you shipping which kills the deal. Their cleaning product is called "Cleaner and Degreaser" so it's very similar to the APC/SD.

Yeah Nick, I don't want to try this myself yet because I have some cleaning solution left. But I'm just thinking for future reference. I'm thinking APC at least 4:1 because of the oil. Or SD at 10:1. We need to hear from someone in Meg's!

            Does it get that dirty?
I would go over it with a shop-vac, rinse it out, let it dry, oil it up, and throw it back in.

You don't have to buy the kit all the time
I too am interested if I can use my gallon of SD or APC+ when I run out of the K&N cleaner

My K&N filter is away from oil fumes and set up for cold air intake. I bought 2 air filters 1 clean one and the 2nd gets cleaned with warm water and DAWN. DAWN cleans any petroleum product right out. I pour the warm water with DAWN on the INSIDE of the filter to wash out any contaminents. I also rinse from the inside out. It air dries in one afternoon

Re: For Anyone That Has A K&N Filter

I've used '409', Simple Green, any APC to clean those puppies. The hardest part of using ANY cleaner (theirs or aftermarket) is to be sure to rinse, rinse and rinse some more. That and insuring that it is DRY before applying the oil.

One trick, is to have a OEM filter on hand, swap out the K&N with the OEM. That way you'll have use of your vehicle and won't be in a rush to get the K&N back in.

A bit OT, DON'T over oil the filter!
