  • Clear coat correction

The clear coat on the driver's side door of my truck is peeling. I Just got it back from the dealer (they repaired some dings), and in addition to some swirls, they messed up the clear coat application as well. I can see where they taped the door, just painting the lower half where the ding was. The clear coat is peeling right beneath the tape mark, and the base coat is smooth.
    Questions:
    1. Should the entire door be sanded and repainted, so as to have a continuous clear coat?
    2. Can you still get a quality paint job by only addressing the part of the door where the paint is peeling?

    Thanks!

    Re: Clear coat correction

It would help if you posted a picture.

Generally the entire door would be painted but there are exceptions such as trim or moldings that can serve to break up a panel. Yes a spot repair can be done but blending the clear is much more difficult.

Sounds like you need to return it for a reshoot. Clear that is starting to peel is only going to get worse.
