  • Washing the car in the winter

I am getting lazy in my old age, plus my back is getting worse--hence I am no longer enthusiastic about washing my cars by hand, especially during the winter months. Winters are not terrible here in Roanoke. The temps do drop down into the 20s and teens, but we also see a lot of days in the 40s, which means that there is no good reason for me not to break out my Optimum No Rinse and to wash my car. I take great pride in my S2000. But I haven't washed it for two months.

On Monday I just couldn't take it any longer. Here is what I did. I took the car down to the local coin-op, which is perhaps a mile and a half away from my home. I pressure washed the car, first with the car soap wash and then with the rinse wash, and I finished off with the light no-spot spray. I then drove the car home immediately, which helped to get rid of a lot of the water left on the surface, and pulled it into the garage.

And then I pulled out my spray bottle of Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere. I've been waiting for an opportunity to try the stuff. I do not like drying a car by hand after using the coin-op, because I know that the power-wash only gets off a large portion, but not nearly all, of the dirt. I know if I take a drying towel to the surface I'll simply be grinding that dirt into the surface. Then it occurred to me: why not use the Wash & Wax Anywhere? I figured it would provide good lubrication and thus help me to safely remove the remaining dirt and dry the car. And that is exactly what it did, leaving behind a nice gloss as a bonus.

I had to use perhaps ten microfiber towels, even for my small car. Using W&W Anywhere is different than quick detailing a car; but you also get better results.

Needless to say, this process works year around, not just during the winter months.

A strong thumbs-up for Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere.

    Cheers,
    Al

Al, this is exactly the way we recommend using UWWA in winter climates when the level of crud on the paint is really high. A quick pressure wash to knock off the major dirt, salt, etc and then a proper cleaning with UWWA to really finish the job. We know how Car Crazy you are about the finish on your S2000 and for you to give "a strong thumbs-up" to UWWA says a heck of a lot about this product. We're glad you finally had the chance to put it to the test.

I know about winter washing. I clean vehicles outside in the cold. Even when it's snowing I clean them. Good thing is I only have to wash and clean the insides if them. Of course I try to clean them when it's like 40 or more outside.

I also use UWWA frequently. It helps me survive winter cold keeping my car free of dirt.

Nomad2Go portable pressure washer, with its 3.5-gallon tank, is nice for a quick initial rinse as well and follow up with either waterless or rinseless wash.

          AGGGGH! Where'd my reply go?

Try again....Al you said exactly what I've been tryin' to say!

'We're' on some pretty harsh water restrictions (drought) and UWWA (and coin-op wash down) is my only saving grace. I was VERY hesitant to even try it on the wife's DD (black Subaru, with their super soft paint), my fears were are unfounded. This stuff is fantastic!

Now, if only it were available locally instead of driving 100 miles (RT) or mail order, I'd be as happy as THAT witch in the broom factory.

          Thanx Meguiar's!

Several of us have been extolling the virtues of UWWA since it came out. Shawn has even started a campaign to get the product in larger sizes http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...d+wax+anywhere

I use it as a quick detailer and love it for bug removal and as a prep coating before leaving on a trip to make bug removal easier.

Al, I like to think as I get older I'm not necessarily lazier, but wiser. "Work smarter, not harder" as the saying goes.
