  • How bad was this spray paint for my car?

I had my car backed out in my drive because I was getting out the hose and bucket to wash the wheels. I got a bit distracted, so I didn't go back for 30 minutes.

When I came back, I saw that the gas company had come and used a stencil on my neighbor's gas meter to spray paint their house number onto the meter (it looks hideous but thats not the point)...

The point is, the closest part of my car was probably only 6 feet away (maybe 5 feet) and there was a breeze going towards the direction of my property. How worried should I be about the overspray? They would have been spraying in the direction away from my property.

    Thanks.

I figure if you likely had a nice coat(s) of wax on your car, it should easily be buffed off with a DA/polish pad and UC?

Claying should be even better. And best right away while fresh.

clay it. that's one of the greatest things about clay.
You'll be fine. Your car problably needs a claying anyways, lol.

Maybe a good time to try one of those clay towels?

Can you see / feel any overspray?

I'd be claying it just in case. The sooner the better...

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

At the very least use some quick detail spray to clean any free standing dust off the area of the car you think has the greatest potential for overspray contamination from the gas company's painting. Now feel it with your clean, bare hand as you normally would when checking for bonded surface contaminants. If it feels really rough or you feel a consistent light though widespread texture then you've got some sort of bonded contaminant issue, most likely thanks to the gas company. Clay should take this off pretty quickly with little effort on your part.

At one of our TNOGs last year Tommy brought his blue Lexus IS-F in with a rough feel to the hood. We started claying it and the white clay was coming up red, but it was also making the paint feel smooth again. Some people questioned the red tint to the clay while working on a blue car and you could see Tommy was having one of those "d'oh!" moments. He had done a little spray paint project inside his garage using, you guessed it, red spray paint. That's all it took to make the paint feel rough, but a little clay was all it took to remedy the situation.

Don't forget to rewax the area after claying!
