  • chrome wheel question

Just purchased some American Racing Boulevard chrome wheels for the camaro. I get the "just regular soap and water" for the washing part. Should I wax them with my trusted NXT 2.0? I'm assuming that won't stand up to the heat from the brakes well.

What does Megs have in the line up that would work here? Hot Rims Chrome polish? Not sure how long that will "last". I guess I'm looking for something like a wax or sealant that will stand the heat.

    Re: chrome wheel question

Well, depends a bit on what they need to look best.

You can use something like the Aluminum Wheel Wash if needing a stronger cleaner, or the Chrome Wheel Wash for the strongest cleaner.

If they need polished up, the Hot Rims Chrome Polish or Hot Rims M&A, or one of the new Metal Polishes, probably only need the mild one if they are new.

As for protection, the wax may look best, but the Brake Dust Barrier will be the most durable.

      Re: chrome wheel question

Chrome is extremely hard and durable stuff so there really isn't a need to wax these wheels. And since quality chrome wheels are so durable they can easily withstand even the most aggressive acid based wheel cleaners, like our Hot Rims Chrome Wheel Cleaner. Just make sure to use it according to the directions and work on just one wheel at a time from start to finish - never spray onto all four wheels and then start rinsing the first. Never.

Chrome polish is good for further down the line when microfine pitting is starting to trap some fine dirt and the gloss level appears to drop a bit. It won't offer any protection and it won't remove noticeable scratches due to the extreme hardness of the chrome plating.

I use blue magic chrome polish it has some silicone in it which protects it over straight polish the stuff works awesome. Keep your wheels clean and they will last forever I've had the same chrome wheels on my taurus year around in central oregon where they use mag chloride on the roads and mine still look new just by keeping up on cleaning them and polishing once a year.
Even the best cars look like junk when they are not clean
