Are you tired of those streaks , have you pretty much had it and refused to clean another window , well if you follow this method I PROMISE YOU. , you will NOT have to deal with another streak ever again - GUARENTEED - here's how the next time you're about to clean a window , forget about the windex that stuff is a joke and will make you insane with streaks, the method I use is up and down left to right you must use this method otherwise it won't work , I didn't believe it at first until I tried it and this was 2 months ago I have yet to see a single streak on my car windows this same method will work on the interior windows as well- try it what have you got to lose - streaks .also forget about paper towels they almost always cause streaks - micro fiber is your answer , they will make your life do much easier and there is no struggle to fight against those streaks , good luck!

The reason Windex streaks is due to the fact it contains ammonia plus it removes any type of sealant that you may have put down.

Here is how I do it.

On the outside I wipe it up and down, the inside side my side, that way you'll know which side of the glass has streaked.

          What is the method?
          wipe left right up down?
and no product or use anything but Windex?

Technique and towels are a big part and product matters too.
There are a few more minor concerns too like how dirty is the window, smoker, etc....

            Re: Never streak again

I have used A LOT of glass cleaners over the years however "spray way" is by far THE BEST no question about it, yes you definitely need a few rags(2)one for the initial wiping of the window(s)and the other for a nice shine, although if it's not all that dirty you can probably get away with one(1) but i don't suggest you try it, do it right the first time or not at all is my motto, the left right / up down is perfect as i tried it once and the rest is history.

            * By the way using this method - no streaks *

              well ok.
I've cleaned thousands of windows and the direction you wipe doesn't matter on bit.
What does matter is your choice of "rags" as you put it. You should use clean microfiber towels due to there lack of lint.
Product is also a factor. Some work better then others. I've used a lot and if I came across any that streaked I just went over the streaks with a dry MFT and the streaks were gone, and then switched products.

For the last few months I've been using Meg's new Perfect Clarity Glass Cleaner and it works great. Is it the "best"? For me it is.

For anyone to say "this is the best" is relevant to the person stating that.
I'm glad you found a product and a system that works for you but in all reality your statement the spray away is the "best" is your opinion and not for everyone.

As Mike Philip's taught me long ago "use what works for you".
I try not tell people "this is the best because it worked for me" and just give my results of products and let people try it and tell of there results.
The TV is full of "the best" stuff and it's all ****. So I tend to shy away from anyone that makes that statement.

                  Re: Never streak again

I've tried all sorts of glass cleaners, and all leave me less than impressed. The method I've found that works best for me is: 1) Wash outside with vinegar and water - this helps remove water spots. 2) Dry with MF towel. 3) Wash inside with mixture of IPA and water - perhaps 1/10. 4) Wipe down with MF towel until almost dry. 5) With a new MF towel, polish side-side, up-down. 6) Repeat IPA process on outside.

Yeah, it's a pain, but it's the only way I've found to get truly great results.

                    Re: Never streak again

I just wipe the windows down with left over wash water and a squeegee. Inside window surfaces I turn on the AC to hide the fogging.

Warm and wet microfiber, dry with a dry micro fiber. No streaks, no matter which way you wipe and no need for any window "cleaner" at all. This might not work for a smokers car.

                        Re: Never streak again

For me, what works is relative, because there is no perfectly clean/clear window, or not for long

Initially out of laziness, I started using the quick products already in my hand one day, and found they worked FAR better than typical window cleaners. Any style of cross-hatching helps, that is, wiping back and forth one way and then the opposite, and the dirtier the towels get, the harder it is to get the smears off. I've found Gold Class Quik Wax, or just the waxy MF towel, is often all I need, unless the glass is really dirty, in which case I'll start with GC Quik Detailer first.

                          Re: Never streak again

The real key is to never let anything self dry on the glass, including plain water. You can make anything streak, including plain water, if you use a lot of liquid and then just sort of smear around the road film on the glass and then walk away with a wet film sitting there. Obviously the dirtier the window is the more liquid you're apt to use to clean it. On a long road trip you may pick up a bunch of bugs and road film and, even though you don't have the time or inclination to wash the entire car at that point, you want the windshield clean so you can see while driving the next leg of your trip. That's why gas stations have those cleaning stations by the pumps with a glass cleaner, scrubber sponge and squeegee. We've all done this at some time or another and the process tends to work very well due to the combination of chemicals in the cleaner (which you don't really need, for the most part, especially if that cleaner has ammonia in it), the scrubbing aspect of the sponge, and the squeegee side to fully dry the glass. Ever notice how the glass will look pretty darn good where the squeegee did it's job (or you used it right) but where any liquid self dried on the surface the glass looks really bad? That's because the liquid that self dried contained all the crud it pulled off the glass, and that will be true even if you use plain water to clean the glass.

So, you need to introduce a good drying step to the process. Use as much liquid as you need to break down the gunk on the glass and then wipe with a towel as vigorously as you need to in order to remove everything. Heavy road grime can be difficult and may need something beyond plain water to break it down, and doing so makes it even more important to do a proper drying wipe after. In some cases it helps to use the higher volume of water/cleaner/whatever-home-brew-mix you like to break things down, wipe with a clean towel and then do a very light mist of liquid and a second wipe with a dry towel. Even then, flip to the dry side of the towel and fully buff that window dry. If you don't need a lot of liquid to clean the glass, don't use it! Using a lot of liquid when you don't need to won't make the job easier, it will make it harder.
