  • Carnuba and Synthetic Wax Question!!

Yes lots of threads on this, but want to start fresh. I've got a detail this weekend and wondered about topping the 2 waxes. The only pure wax I have at this time is Deep Crystal. I have Ultimate Liquid, NXT 2.0 and White Wax. Carnuba helps with deeper reflections while the synthetic adds a wetter/glossier look while adding longer protection. What would be a good combo as he wants both properties but as a separate entity. Do I add the carnuba deep crystal first as it's a pure wax, let it cure, then wipe off then add Ultimate, White or NXT 2.0 on top and let it cure for a bit? I was thinking the deep crystal first then topping it with NXT, but then the UW is longer lasting.

Also the challenge is to make a shiny glossy car even more deeper and rich looking as it's a brand new 2014 Dark Blue Ford Escape!

I also have M66 which is an AIO of course. I will also clay the car with a Nano pad then maybe either UP or Show Car Glaze (which I really liked on my electric green Ford Mustang I had)

Re: Carnuba and Synthetic Wax Question!!

I was just thinking that the pure wax would go on top of one of the others I mentioned since I don't want to put anything over a pure wax, unless it was another pure wax, so I don't remove that pure wax. Make sense? lol

Re: Carnuba and Synthetic Wax Question!!

In my opinion nothing is better than carnuba in a wax preparation. And the higher VOC the better. M16 is one of the best waxes ever made, but our nannny state thinks it is bad so it is a rare fine now. (Heck with the planet) Synthetic might be your only hope.
Do an AIO, and put a pure (synthetic is not pure in my opinion) on top.

          Wash
          Clay
          UP
          UW
          DP

This is what i would do

You want to polish then apply a sealant. Carnauba would be the topper. Sealants will offer longer lasting protection and the carnauba would be the sacrificial layer since it typically lasts a couple months. I would recommend ultimate polish, ultimate wax and then your choice of carnauba.

Re: Carnuba and Synthetic Wax Question!!

              Wash
              Clay
Clean (A dedicated cleaner like UC if needed) or AIO like White or Black Wax
              Sealant (NXT 2.0 or Ultimate)

If all prep work is done thoroughly, the improvement in gloss when Carnauba is applied may be very minimal. Putting pure carnauba over a sealant is an optional step. But I like putting carnauba over a synthetic sealant too, although I use a non-megs product. So you put carnauba on top of a sealant, not the other way around.

Re: Carnuba and Synthetic Wax Question!!

hmm still debating on what I want to do. 1-1/2 left until I start the detail. So a little time left.

                I'm looking towards;
                Clay
                #7
                NXT 2.0
                Deep Crystal

                or 2nd choice
                Clay
White wax or #66(but I don't really want to break open a brand new container, since it's close to end of season for me)
                NXT 2.0
Deep Crystal (new bottle) ( wish I had the Hi-Tech Yellow Wax to top off. The combo of #7 and #26 always looked great together)

I thought that it is said that if a wax (carnauba) goes down first, the sealant will not properly bond to the finish and is essentially wasted? I'm of the understanding that you always lay down the synthetic sealant first and only then do you top coat with your carnauba product.
Doing the best I can with what I've got.

Re: Carnuba and Synthetic Wax Question!!

ok done with the car. I think it made a difference. The customer said he liked it, loved the feel of the paint after (as he felt it before and I did a demo for him on a section of the hood with clean and then clay it) He was shocked. Plus he noticed the difference in the glossier and wetter look than it was when he dropped it off. I guess when the customer sees the difference on a brand new vehicle with only 507 miles on it, then I did my job! He was very happy with it and can now enjoy. New car dealership prep my arse. BAH. He just bought it Monday, brought it to me today after calling me 4 days after he bought it and wanted it "cleaned" right. I love when customers know the quality of my work. Makes me feel good!!

Just an example of the finished product. More under the show off your latest work section!

                    Quick Detailed (no wash needed)

                    NXT 2.0
Topped with Deep Crystal Carnuba Wax
other stuff was done to the rest of the exterior.

Re: Carnuba and Synthetic Wax Question!!

Nice results! M07 can be a pain to use, but with perseverance and patience, it adds a lot of depth. Deep Crystal Carnauba wax? An entry level pure wax, another product that in my experience, gives one hell of a shine. I used it on various colors of paint, while not the most durable vs. some other waxes I have (collinites 476s, 845 or 915), gives a deep, wet look as you've successfully shown. Great job!

Re: Carnuba and Synthetic Wax Question!!

                          Rather 2 specific questions
I know that in general, synthetic offers the better protection and I might have this mixed up but I thought I read somewhere that carnauba has the better protection when it comes to bird bombs. Any validity to this?
