  • Any opinions on karcher K5.740 pressure washer?

I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger on this. I already got their chassis washer that hooks to their power washer with a propriety connection, so logically, I need the power washer to go along with it.

Have any (or many) of you had good results with the Karcher residential electric power washer?

Do you feel that a gas powered one is worth dealing with the added size, noise and maintenance?

I don't like the gas powered pressure washers for the simple fact of the reason's you mentioned, plus the fact that I don't have to go and get gas for it. I had a nice (NEW) gas pressure washer years back and when I went into mobile detailing sold it real quick, I didn't like the reason's you stated and if I turned on a loud gas pressure washer early in the morning I don't think alot of my customers neighbors would be to happy, and then again of the fact of having to carry around a jug in the back of my truck.

I've just got a smaller Karcher washer and have had it for all these years but it now is starting to act alittle funny, so I will be looking for another electric pressure washer in the near future. Plus one important fact is that @ pressures of 1400p.s.i to 2000 p.s.i or more (which my older one has a 1400p.s.i) is more then enought to create some problems with that much pressure to your paint/decals or trim!

While I would not put my pressure washer near my cars, my neighbor down the road has a Karcher electric..it is big but I cannot remember the psi, however it seems to be a good machine. It is several years old, used a lot, and he has not had any trouble with it.

I don't have a real use for washing cars paint with a pressure washer. Even if I were to use it on a painted car, I would do as I now do at the local power washer in town and keep about a 2 foot distance from the car.

I want it for under carriage with the Karcher chassis washer I just bought and for things like my kids atv and dirt bikes. Use on a car like mine are not needed, I wash my cars constantly. My version of a dirty car is that I drove it to work 2 days since the last bath.

Seems as if you that resounded don't have horror stories about karcher, and the one I'm looking at is the highest end of the consumer line. So I think I'll move on it in a month or shop after the weather shifts to above freezing temps.

I will agree with what daniel suggested. I think gas-powered preesure washer can have more disadvantages than its advantages.

Gas has two main advantages...more pressure/psi and can use it anywhere as long as you have some gas. They also usually can be repaired if there an issue.

For an electric, I would look for something that has brass attachment fittings. Some models have plastic hose attach points that will lead to trouble.

You see a lot of complaints with electric ones regarding leaks and this can easily be caused by not draining water out and it freezing.
