  • First time here and I'm APPALED!

At my own actions. I'm methodically destroying my car.

I have a black 2014 Mustang GT and have been taking it to a coin-op every Sunday for a weekly washing. That's not the worst of it! I'm in Tampa, FL and the pollen is absurd. I found that I could take a microfiber towel mid week and dust off the car... dry. I know.. it's unspeakable.

I hereby vow to properly care for my new obsession - starting with proper washing techniques. I understand the two-bucket method but I'm leaning towards waterless/rinseless washing. I really like Gary Dean's method but have a couple questions:

    1) Is waterless/rinseless viable as a weekly procedure? Unfortunately I have to park outside day and night so I do get a decent buildup of dust between washes. I'm careful not to park under trees to avoid birds and sap and the buildup is mostly pollen/dust not caked on gunk. Generally speaking, I can swipe a finger and get a clean streak.

    2) I have a ton of reading to do on the forums but is there a recommended Meg product to use with Gary's method? I'd like to use it in a spray bottle as a presoak and also in the bucket as a waterless cleaning solution. If anyone has good experience with this method and a Meg product, I'd be interested in narrowing down my research for the time being.

Glad to be in like-minded company and I do appreciate any feedback provided.

So I see UWWA looks like the best option. From what I can tell there is no concentrated version. Is there anything that will work similar in a concentrate? I'd hate to spend $300 to fill a bucket...

redCORTEX - I hear you. I had the same feeling when I first started lurking here. What a fool I'd been before! Fortunately, you probably haven't ruined anything, and it can all be "corrected" with a DA muli-step process.

I haven't used any dedicated waterless wash product, other than quik detailer. For daily/weekly touch-up, assuming the car is not "dirty", but just covered in pollen/dust (the pollen here is epic), I rely on a quick rinse without washing and a blow dry. If it's really light I'll use a duster, or heavier residue, I'll reach for the quik detailer and then a re-quik wax. I only wash outright when it's really necessary.

Re: First time here and I'm APPALED!

If you're looking for a good rinseless wash to use with Garry's process, our D114 Rinse Free Express Wash is the perfect choice. Just an ounce per two gallons of water, stack your folded towels in a bucket and you're good to go. If you want wax in the mix, then go with D115 Rinse Free Experess Wash & Wax, but you'll have to go with a much stronger dilution ratio for best results. Our normal recommendation is 4:1 to 8:1 and as far as 20:1 in high humidity areas. In your case, you should get excellent results by adding a quart of D115 to 3 gallons of water in a 5 gallon bucket and stacking your folded towels in there. Get a gamma seal for your bucket and you can probably wash your Mustang half a dozen times with this one preparation. Towel management is critical, of course, but it's amazing what you can do with a rinseless or waterless wash.

Welcome to MOL - we're glad you're here and we're glad you're learning to take care of your new Mustang properly!!

Rinseless washes are one of the best car care ideas ever! Yes you can do rinseless weekly.

Re: First time here and I'm APPALED!

I have been using D114 for about a year now.
I just hose down the car to free it from any type of debris and then pull the car into the garage for the rinseless wash.

As Michael Stoops already said, towel management is key.
There is what Marc08EX coined as "Michael Stoops Waterless Wash Method" or MSWWM for short.

Thanks for all the input guys. D114 it is! I'm going to focus first on washing properly then move into clay/polish/wax after I'm able to read up more on the forums. C8N: Thanks for the link to the MSWWM which then links to Michaels Tips and Tricks. That should keep me busy a few hours.
