  • Really Need Help With Choosing Pads!

Hi Guys, so I have the Porter Cable 7424XP, and I have am having a really tough time knowing which pad to get and if its compatible and what not.

Please have a look at the following 2 links I posted below, one is the Backing Plate, and the other is a Compounding Pad.

Firstly, I want to know if the Backing Plate is compatible with the Compounding Pad, and secondly, if its actually compatible with the Porter Cable 7424XP.

I understand if I not mistaken it attaches via Velcro, but this is what I want to also confirm before making any purchases.

I really appreciate any feedback you folks can provide...Cheers!

    First off, welcome to MOL!

That backing plate will work just fine but it may not be the best choice - we'll get to that in a minute. That wool pad, however, is a rotary only pad and most definitely NOT something you would want to use on a DA buffer like your 7424XP. You are correct in thinking that the backing plate you select should be a match for the pads you intend to use, so you're headed in the right direction.

If you were even considering that wool pad we assume you're looking for some pretty good cutting power. If that's the case, then why not go with our DA Microfiber Correction System? Since you're in Canada you might want to give eshine.ca a look that. Go with the 5" pads for your buffer, which means you'll also want a different backing plate than the one you referenced. This one at eshine will work with our microfiber pads.

Before you start working with either the buffer itself or the DAMF System, do yourself a huge favor and read through these two articles first:

Welcome to MOL! As Mike says, you should check out the DA Microfiber Correction Kit. This will have everything you need to get started, including the correct backing plate and pads. You can achieve spectacular results, even as a "first-timer". Make sure the car is clean and that you make an assessment of the surface to determine if you need to clay bar the paint first to remove all surface contaminants and any existing wax. Then follow the instructions and techniques outlined in the posts Mike provided for you. Amazon has the 5" Microfiber Correction Kit for under 70 bucks. I can personally recommend this system, as I used it on my black 2007 Toyota Tundra and my results were pretty amazing. Good luck with your project with whichever products you choose to use and above all, have fun! Here's the link to the DMCKIT5 at Amazon:

I just realized you are in Toronto and Amazon shipping charges to Canada may be cost prohibitive.
