D115 @ 4:1 vs M135 as a QD

So I went on a bit of a spending bonanza yesterday, taking full advantage of autogeeks 15% tax day discount..

Anyway, I picked up a gallon of D115, D155 and a gallon of M135.

I'm going to use the D155 and dilute to 1:1 and have that as my clay lube.

I really have no need for a waterless / rinseless wash, in that water is plentiful where i'm at and IMHO a more enjoyable way to wash my car. My main purpose on the D115 was to dilute to either 4:1 or 8:1, and really use it as a quick detailer, for in-between my routine car washes... It works out to be a very inexpensive way to QD your car, while adding protection.

Not really sure why I purchased the M135 other than it just kinda grabbed my interest and I've always had my eye on it ever since searching for a decent alternative to buying 32oz of QD. It is essentially a detailer line QD, and my understanding is that it is the detailer line of Ultimate Quik Detailer.

So when would it be advantageous of me to use the M135 over the D115 @ 1:4. or is it a case of half a dozen and 6 of the other ?

Scratching my head over this one.

M135 is a quick detail spray with some nice, although short lived, hydrophobic polymers added to it. It's great for removal of very light dust and fingerprints, but not really anything dirtier than that. D115, even at 4:1, can be used to fully wash a car even after it's been driven in the rain and is quite dirty. It provides genuine polymer protection that is surprisingly durable and slick. In the strictest sense it's kind of overkill as a quick detailer, but from an enthusiast's perspective it's also kind of awesome as one!! So while you, given your description of your intended maintenance routine, would use both M135 and D115 for the same basic purpose, it's not quite 6 of one/half dozen of the other as D115 can and will do things that M135 can only dream of.

Do you have a friend you can gift the M135 to? It's great stuff, for sure, but in your scenario it's outclassed.

Thanks Michael.. Kind of what I thought as i was ordering.. In hindsight, i would have probably been better off buying the D114 instead of the M135. But I'm sure i'll have fun using it.

Just use the M135 for light clean-ups, and the D115 for when the car is dirtier.

I agree that D115 is more versatile, and offers more protection than 135. However, I would keep the #135 around. It is the best QD by far when it comes to removing tree sap mist. And no, it does not swirl or scratch the paint when used on tree sap mist. Plus it provides a very slick finish. If you are OCD (like many of us here LOL) you may want to use the M135 every day unless it rains or your car picks up a heavier layer of dirt or dust.

I say keep and use them both!

I wish I'd found this thread before my most recent shopping bonanza, because I'm finding myself in the same boat. So I'm zombie-fying this thread to see if you actual did find a difference or reason. I'm considering dividing my car and using the D115 on one side and the M135 on the other (primarily dealing with bird poop and love bugs) for a few months, to see if there's a good reason to keep the M135 around. I primarily picked it up because of the rate I was going through UQD, but I may have been short sighted.

IMHO the M135 works better at removing tree sap mist and leaves a slicker surface than UQD. I have also had good results with D115 on tree sap mist but for some reason the 20:1 ratio works better than 4:1 for that purpose. D115 is my favorite waterless wash by far.

I'd forgotten about this post. I actually discontinued the M135 during the heat of summer because it was leaving an absolutely appalling residue. A black car in Texas heat is just too hot I think. I thought I'd ruined my paint, it kind of looked like bird dropping holograms (except it was practically the whole danged hood), but fortunately it buffed right out. I'll probably go back to it and try some more now that the weather is cooling off. But the D115 is I think more multifunctional. If someone had a limited budget, that's what I'd recommend they get.
