  • White Wax Versus Ultimate Polish

    Hi All,

I am a fan of Meguiar Products/ I like to detail my car (White)/ I have numerous Meguiar Consumer Line Products.

I understand there were discussion about White Wax vesus Cleaner Wax as per below link and below image.

I have searched this forum but have not found how ULTIMATE POLISH fare against WHITE WAX.

    Hence my question is:-

    1) I have both White Wax and Ultimate Polish, how shall I use them in conjunction to maintain my white car?
One time ULTIMATE POLISH and followed by 6 monthly use of White Wax to maintain?
My car suffers more from embedded dirt than swirl/ scratched as parked in a sheltered by open air garage.

    2) Does ULTIMATE POLISH happen to have the Cleaning Abilities of White Wax + Polishing Abilities of Black Wax (and little or nil protection being a dedicated polish product) ?

    3) If i have the time to do 2 step (Polish with ULTIMATE POLISH followed by ULTIMATE WAX), does that make WHITE WAX redundant ? (white wax being one step product (OSP) for those quick detail) ?

Re: White Wax Versus Ultimate Polish

Ultimate Polish has slight abrasives, whereas wax doesn't. Its normally the stage BEFORE a wax. They're both different products. Wax is a protection, polish is a finer type of compound used for removing very fine defects and bringing out the shine. Which may not be as obvious on a white car. Wax doesn't remove any defects only protects.

White wax actually does have SMAT abrasives in it. As does Ultimate Polish. It's been posted in various threads that White Wax contains the same type of SMAT abrasives found in M101. UP will have more SMAT abrasives in it.

An all in one (AIO) can only do so much. A dedicated product for a specific task will yield better results. If you don't have the time then go with an AIO. That's a benefit for a quick detail that can clean, polish and leave some protection behind. If you have the time then go with the polish/wax combo you listed. Based on what you have listed, ultimate wax will outlast white wax in terms of longevity.

White wax is a very good AIO and is impressive. I've used it with a DA and it did an amazing job. Really comes down to how much time you have. I followed the following article written by Mr. Stoops. I also used D156 (ultimate quik wax) after applying white wax to get some additional protection.

      These are also good references.

        1. If you have time; do UP, then UW.
        2. If not; just WW and call it done!

1 will yield better results, but you'll be surprised how good WW is for such little effort / time!

Oh, and don't forget to clay first!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Even if white wax is a cleaner wax, it does have considerable cutting power and is versatile. It has good cutting power when applied like a dedicated paint cleaner (think moderate pressure, longer work time on the panel), and will provide adequate protection.

It can also be applied "traditionally", in either case, I'd still apply a finishing wax (Ultimate or NXT 2).

And as Davey said, if you have lots of time, that's when I'd use ultimate polish.

Hi All, thanks for the replies.

So how is Ultimate Polish's (UP) Cleaning Ability compare to White Wax (WW) ?
(so i know what to use to address the specific issue. Example, if White Wax does have more cleaning power than UP, then i will know WW is the product to use to clean the car when car is 'dirty' but not much swirls.
