  • GT 500 Strips

I just purchased a 2014 Ford Shelby GT500, black with red stripes. My questions is has anybody had experience with using ultimate compound/polish/wax on the stripes? The car has typical light swirls as does the stripes hence the question. Thanks for any advice.

Just go easy on the stripes. I assume they are vinyl?

Perhaps start with a cleaner wax on a test spot first and see if that does anything. If not, try UP on a test spot to see if that removes the swirls.

I'd be hesitant to use a compound like UC on them, but I haven't tried. Others may chime in on that one.

    UW is no problem.

Are you working by hand or machine?

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

They are not paint so I can only assume vinyl but they are glossy like paint.

The GT500s came with vinyl stripes (that can be removed if done carefully by someone who knows what they're doing!). I have vinyl hash marks on my fenders (flat black) and I've UC'ed, UP'ed, and UW'ed over them without any issues. The flat black vinyl does seem to have a darker sheen to it after a detailing. Now, as to how a gloss finish stripe would handle all of that, I don't know. On a side note, Have you ever seen a GT500 with the stripes deleted? They look ridiculously sinister like that!
