I am a great fan of ColorX, however no one stocks it anymore (even if it is still being produced?) Yes, I have found it on line but the price and shipping charges are crazy. My cars are in super shape, so other than claying, my wax regime was to ColorX the cars, and top them with UW. Since ColorX cannot be obtained, my thought was to replace it with Black Wax, so off to I went to WallyWorld to pick some up. Well, the Black Wax is almost twice the price of Mothers Cleaner Wax and less product. I am confident that Mothers Cleaner Wax is basically the same as ColorX, so my plan is to use the Mothers Cleaner Wax and then top it with UW. Other than loyalty to Meguiars, can anyone provide me with a good reason that UW over Mothers will not be a good plan? Thanks.

Re: Ultimate Wax on top Mothers Cleaner Wax
Mother's Cleaner Wax has carnauba wax and ultimate Wax is a synthetic. Putting UW over the Mother's wouldn't hurt anything but would probably not be as durable.2011 Ford Mustang GT Cali Special

The durability will be affected. By how much, well that's hard to say.

Re: Ultimate Wax on top Mothers Cleaner Wax
Thanks for the reply, however, how would the durability of UW be affected? Are you saying UW won't stick to carnauba wax?
If someone can give a scientific reason the durability would be reduced, it would be appreciated.

Re: Ultimate Wax on top Mothers Cleaner Wax
I didn't say it won't stick to the carnuaba. It's not like UW is going to fall off from sitting on top of the wax. UW will be sitting on top of the wax thus becoming your sacrificial layer. UW will not be able to bond cleanly to the paint. Sealants traditionally like to bond to a clean surface.

I forgot to mention that like Mike Phillips, I am a believer in product synergy. So in my opinion mixing manufacturers may or may not affect longevity.

Re: Ultimate Wax on top Mothers Cleaner Wax
Listen to the Guz. You want to apply ULW first. ULW is actually a paint sealer and not a wax. And sealers need to adhere directly to the paints surface (i.e. No wax underneath it). And the if you want to top it with a carnauba, you may. I've experienced that route a couple times. In the end I determined that two coats of ULW gave me the best look in the end. Not because it "layered" but because I got a really even application on the vehicle. If you're dead set on topping ULW with a Nuba. Go with #26 yellow wax.

Why not just go with Meguiar's Cleaner Wax? Or, if there's a NAPA near you, check for Meguiar's M06 Cleaner Wax from our Mirror Glaze pro line - their website shows it being available in stores.Michael Stoops
