  • Scratch X 2.0 Alternative

    Hi Guys,

My car just got keyed and i thought I'd try the DIY approach

This is the damage. Does it look like the scratches can be removed or at least diminished to an extent so that they dont stand out.

I had planned to try Scratch X 2.0, but unfortunately it not available in India where I am based.

There is a vendor on ebay india thats selling Megs ultimate compound and Megs ultimate polish

Would this combo be as effective as scratch X 2.0 or better?

I dont have a DA or rotary polisher and will be using good old elbow grease, so are the products i mentioned suitable for use by hand and are they clearcoat safe, as I am a total noob?

Finally after this process, would Ultimate Quik Wax work as a sealant? ( i use this product and have quite a bit of it left) or do i need some other product?

    Thanks

Those look pretty deep, so if you can feel them with your hand, you're most likely going to have to do something like Dr. ColorChip or touch-up paint for your car to fill in the scratches, then maybe sand and compound. Pain in the rear.

We would agree these scratches unfortunately look deep and would likely require repair by a professional.

Thanks for your advice. By professional repair, do you mean touch up or a full panel repaint?

If i were to apply clearcoat in the scratch area with a brush and then sand, compund and polish would that work to an extent? I'm not expecting 100% perfection

        Thanks!

I had good luck fixing a gouge with touch up paint, wet sanding with 3000 grit sandpaper after letting the paint cure for a week then compounding out the scratches from wet sanding. I just watched a few videos online to learn how to do it

I had a deep scratch on the driver's side rear door panel of my last vehicle, and after touch up paint (several coats), was able to sand with 3000--12000 grit sandpaper (Hobby Lobby sells them in a pack), followed with UC and wax.

It was still visible, but not nearly as distressing. When I traded the car in, they didn't ding me for the scratch when I got it appraised, which was nice.

The dealer's body shop corrected it fully before they rolled it to another happy owner. Was part of the rehab cost which included a new windshield.

That scratch was about as deep as yours. If you want them to be fully corrected, a professional body shop would be your best choice. Do some interviewing though, to make sure the work meets your standards.
