  • Help with exterior trim (Mini Cooper)

    Hey guys,

It's been a while, but I'm back. So basically i just purchased a 2004 Mini Cooper S and I have just finished clay barring and waxing but I am curious on how to protect exterior black panels and chrome trim from the sun as I live in Vegas and it is HOT. Also, the interior is flawless and I'd like to keep it that way.. Aside from window tint, interior quick detail (which I just used/purchased). and leather cleaner/conditioner.. is there anything else I should be using or are these products enough to fight against fading/cracking?

Thanks all (I attached photos from my dropbox, not sure if it will show but if it doesn't you can google 04 mini cooper to see what im talking about)

The chrome trim can be waxed like the paint. The black plastic can get trim dressing; which one you'll use is kind of personal preference. Those honeycomb vents would probably be protected best with an aerosol trim protectant, unless you want to apply a liquid to each individual hole.

Do you have any recommendations on a dressing that won't stain? And can I just use interior quick detail on them since it has some uv coating in it and the bottle says it's good on plastic..?

As stated you can wax or seal the chrome trim with whatever protection you use on the paint.

There are quite a few options for trim protectants. Meguiar's offers ultimate black (lotion version) that works well. D4510 Plastic & Vinyl Coating works well on honeycomb grilles. Apply it often and the trim will stay looking great.
