  • What to do?

I have a 2016 B5 Blue Dodge Charger Scat Pack. I had the dealer install hood and trunk stripes. They are covered with white swirls and hard as hell to remove. I've tried detail spray, wax and etc. What would be the best method to get rid of these? One can put moisture on your thumbs and they will come off but other ways not so. The stripes were put on by the dealer by an aftermarket vendor that they use. The stripes are black.

    Re: What to do?

    Hi Leon,

Unfortunately Meguiar's does not have any products or processes which we recommend for addressing defects in vinyl films such as vinyl wraps, vinyl stripes, or clear vinyl protective films. We have products which can be used to maintain vinyl wraps & stripes, but again nothing designed to remove swirls & scratches. Other users may comment their experience on what may have worked for them, but just know we do not approve or recommend the use of our compounds & paint cleaners designed to remove defects in automotive paint, to be used to try to remove defects in vinyl films (they could actually potentially cause hazing & scouring if used on these surfaces). We apologize for any inconvenience!

The below article is a little older, but still has our recommendations for maintaining vinyl films if needed:

OK maybe they are more like white streaks that will fade with mositure on a rag. I want to know how to keep them off and what to use to clean them up. They are not scratches.

My apologies, I shouldn't have assumed they were scratches. Could you possibly capture these in a picture, possibly in direct sunlight? This will help us further assess what is going on. You can create an album in the forum gallery, upload a photo, and then copy & paste it into your post.

              Re: What to do?

BTW, we can't see an image inside your webmail

I'd suggest a polish, say Deep Crystal or Ultimate Polish which will be easy to find. I'd apply the polish kinda thick but without much rubbing, buff the excess, then cover with a wax.

Alternatively, if the stripes are not paint but vinyl, you could use Ultimate Black, which is not a polish or wax, but is awesome for rubber, plastic, etc, and also easy to find. Apply it carefully with a rag, making sure to wipe off the excess and finish with a spray wax (be careful, because Ultimate Black can smear paint and can be very difficult to remove, and can run/smear when it gets wet before it fully cures, so removal and buffing with a spray wax are key!). Also, if you have Ultimate Interior Detailer handy, it's sorta kinda akin to Ultimate Black, and you can try this concept with a quick spray and less worry about affecting the paint, then use UB later. These alternatives assume the stripes are vinyl and NOT paint.

If the stripes are painted, though, forget all that, because the polish route is the way to go. Hope all that helps
