  • Ultimate Polish is not available, good to go with Ultimate Compound?

    Hi all,

I am ready now to give the new 5" DA foam discs a spin, I recently got the cutting, polishing and finishing foam discs to use them with my G220 V2. I have two cars, a 2011 Pearl White Maxima and a 2012 Liquid Yellow Renault Clio RS200. They are in pretty good shape, but there are some swirls and fine scratches here and there. I will clay the cars first because the surface is not smooth.

Unfortunately, Ultimate Polish is out of stock in my area and what is available is Ultimate Compound, I never tried the Ultimate Compound but I have a good experience with Ultimate Polish.

Can I use Ultimate Compound with the new "polishing foam disc" and get the same results as of using Ultimate Polish? I also have Meguire's ColorX to follow along with Ultimate Wax.

Your advice will be highly appreciated.

You will get better results in terms of correction with ultimate compound on a yellow foam disc. If the paint looks good after this combination then you can proceed to ultimate wax.

Typically when using a compound, for best results, especially for dark colors, it is recommended to follow with a polish, like Ultimate Polish, and then a wax, like Ultimate Wax. Since the vehicle's paint colors are not what we would consider dark colors, you should be satisfied without performing a polish step. What you are possibly missing is slightly more gloss & reflections.

Depending on the paint color and the correction pad...Is this you first time machine polishing?
Be sure to clean the pad (at least) after each section. Do you have a foam pad cleaning brush?

I'd Use Ultimate Compound for minor swirl removal etc. with the Crimson thin Foam Cutting Pad.
I'd follow that with Ultimate Polish to improve clarity and gloss with the Yellow thin Foam Polishing Pad.
Then Last Step Product (LSP) for protection Ultimate Liquid wax with the Black thin Foam Finishing Pad.

I'd wait to polish the paint until I had all three products to do a 1, 2, 3 knock out...but hey that's me.

The Guz & Nicholas, thank you for your input, I got the point.

No this is not my first time with the machine, If I had the Ultimate Polish in my hands, I would have gone the same route as you. That's why I asked about Ultimate Compound because it's available and I am not sure when the Ultimate Polish will be available.

IIRC Megs UC is based on M105 and Megs UP is based on M205.
The Ultimate product line is more consumer friendly than Mirror Glaze.

Do you have an Auto-Parts chain store near you?
So my second thought would be Megs M205.

Side Note: I've used M205 with a thin purple wool pad with excellent correction results.

That's a great point Merlin, iMak, maybe your distributor carries some of our professional line products, like M205 Ultra Finishing Polish? As Merlin indicated, Ultimate Polish is derived from M205's chemistry.

If you only end up needing the cut of Ultimate Compound on our DFP5 yellow foam polishing disc, you could follow with M205 Ultra Finishing Polish on a DFF5 black foam finishing disc, and then follow with a coat of wax.
