  • Needed suggestion for my first time polish/wax

Hello. I must begin by saying i don't have any experience in car detailing. I am a beginer but every one must begin from somewhere. So i armed myself with lots of forum experiences and youtube videos but still i need you advices.

Here are the steps that i was thinking to follow (everything will be done manual):

    - wash the car
    - decontaminate the car - remove bitum
    - wash again
    - decontaminate the car - remove iron
    - wash again . Wipe the car
    - use a degreaser. Wipe the car
    - use a first step of meguiar 3 in 1 wax - mainly for polishing , and wipe it right away
    - use the second step of meguiar 3 in 1 wax and leave it for 15-20 minutes to cure and then wipe it.
    - after 24 hours wash the car again(as i don't have a garage and it will be dusty) and add the Meguiar Ultimate Fast Finish wax.

Please let me know if i skipped a step or everything seems ok.

Will it worth to use the DA power system instead of manual waxing? And use in the first step with 3 in 1 was the DA polish pad and in the second step the DA waxing pad.

    Thank you , regards.

    Welcome to MOL.

    You have the right idea.

    Wash
Chemical decontamination (iron, remover, tar remover) - you could combine both steps into one to save time. You only need to use a tar remover on the areas that need it.
    Rinse
    Clay
3 in 1 wax - treat this like a polish and leave it on the paint until you finish going around the paint. It will save you from going over the car again.

      Just to add...

I dont think you need to wash inbetween iron and tar and degreaser. I tend to wash at the end to get them all off.

I would not bother applying 3-in-1 twice (you are just going to remove what you applied). I would just want a regular was after, likethe Fast Finish or other favorite.

Thank you for your replies. Just for me to understand , you are washing after the degreaser? I eanted to wash after the decontamination and after the degreaser just wipe the car and then start with the 3 in 1.

I guess it depends on what you are removing.... If you are using a lot to remove stuff, then might need a wash. If just a light spry and wipe, then ok to move on.

Usually if I do the iron, then tar, then wash, everything is pretty good to go... then on to claying and cleaning/polishing/waxing.

These days, it is almost more common to do a decontaminate wipedown after polishing, before the new ceramic type waxes are used.
