  • Proper use of foam waxing pads

I think I may have inadvertantly damaged my paintwork cos I used the 3M micro-fibre cloth to apply the cleaner wax. Now my paintwork has tons of scratches.
I previously used the foam applicators but gave up cos they were too small and kept getting buildup of wax around the sides not to mention that varying the pressure produced different results.
Problem is that I wax by hand so thought that using the cloth would be quicker.
    Seems like a bad mistake....
Anyone can tell me the proper way to use the foam pads to apply the wax by hand....

I havent waxed my car yet still waiting for my clay to come in, you should try the even coat applicator that meguiars offers.

Apply pad with product to finish and spread out to small area
      Work product in
Apply more product to pad and repeat above steps

I know that's what you're supposed to do but are you supposed to exert pressure or just allow the foam to glide over the paintwork, cos I realize that when you're in the middle of waxing using the foam applicator, increasing the pressure will cause some of the absorbed wax to be squeezed out which results in uneven-ness in the wax coat.
Not to mention if you're using your fingers to hold the applicator, you will see that the manner of holding the foam also affects the manner in which the wax is spread.
I don't known if you can understand what I am describing...cos on the whole I felt the foam applicator did not give an even coat of wax possibly cos I'm holding it wrongly or applying too much pressure...?
What if I use those foam pads for DA polishers but apply the wax by hand....?
        Will that solve the problem....?

          Okay,

You put some wax on the pad and rub it around on clean paint to apply a thin coat.

You do the best you can and try to apply the correct amount of pressure... you be the judge.

Finally, you buff off the thin coat and you are done!

Instead of worrying about squeezing too much out, use a constant pressure and apply some as needed to the pad.

          Go for even coverage too.

I am sure it will turn out good. I can't think of any way to screw up waxing provided you put it on thin, in good weather, out of direct sun, and buff it with a soft terry or micro fiber. Be sure to get all of it off. Buff it off well and thouroghly.
