  • Help-How to get rid of an application of Rainx window cleaner?

I did something that I somewhat knew would turn out bad but I did it anyway...I decided to clean the exterior side of the windows on my 2022 Highlander using Rainx Glass Cleaner. The result is the dreaded 'Rainx Haze' accompanied by the 'Rainx Whiteout' - the windshield glare that happens when opposing traffic headlights hit the windshield on a rainy evening.

How do I remove the rainx window cleaner residue from the windows?

I hate rainx....I hated it when I tried it in the early 80s, then figured that maybe in the 90s they improved it (not) and swore it off but in a moment of weakness, thought I'd try the glass/window cleaner (as opposed to the windshield treatment product) might be better as I ran out of invisible glass and thought the rainx glass cleaner would not be as bad as the original product...wrong!

If you don't want to buy any new products, use a bit of Ultimate Compound or Scratch X if you have any. But you can also use P&S Clairity Glass Cream Polish.

Thanks, I am going to have to buy something no matter what it is. What is the best product to use in this case?

P&S Clairity is a nice one. Soft99 also makes a great product, Glaco roll.on cleaner. One of those 2 would do nicely.

excellent - thank you! After using the cleaner, is any window treatment necessary? or suggested? or should it just be left alone?

Just wash it down with a good window cleaner. Leave if you wish, or coat with a coating. Whichever you choose.

To remove the Rainx residue, use a citrus-based glass cleaner like Invisible Glass. Apply it with a clean microfiber towel and wipe in a circular motion. For stubborn spots, try a non-abrasive glass polish or clay bar. Rinse with water and dry with a fresh towel to ensure all residue is gone.

This is a common problem but fortunately it’s fixable. Start by thoroughly cleaning the windows with an ammonia-based glass cleaner. If the haze persists, a clay bar treatment can be a great option, as it’ll remove the stubborn film RainX leaves behind. Be sure to follow up with a good glass cleaner to ensure the surface is free from any leftover residue. Finally, after everything is cleaned, consider applying a new glass treatment to protect the surface and improve visibility.
