Removing Sharpie Mark

I am trying to find out if any of you all have any good tricks on getting out this blue Sharpie mark that is on my backseat. The seat is leather so I am hoping that there is some product out there that might help. Any of you been in this spot and know the trick??

Have you tried anything yet?

Some people have used APC to clean leather, but that is mostly surface stuff. If this absorbed down in, it may be stuck.

Not sure if they work, but I have heard:

Baby Wipes
Nail Polish Remover
Hair Spray

May want to test in an inconspicuous area first and follow up with Leather Conditioner, etc...

I have heard the hair spray one but have yet to try it along with those others because I fear what it might do to the leather. I did try the Mr. Clean pad and it didn't even put a dent in it.

MURR--I have not tried the APC ever and I may just have to break down and finally get some to see if that would work.

APC is great for everything.. so it wont go to waste. From wheelwells, underbody, house siding, floors, whatever. You'll put it to use.

Any more ideas on this? My friends have a MB with light gray leather seats and their little one drew a smiley face on the back of the seat. They tried a magic eraser and it got half of it off, but it seems like it soaked into the leather.

I tried APC+ 10:1 and 4:1

I just don't think it will come out.

Supposedly, hairspray gets ink out of clothing. I would guess it might work for leather, too. ...maybe...

They have an ink lifter kit. I've not used the ink lifter, but I have to use this product rather than Meguiar's due to the warranty on my leather. They make a very good cleaner, and conditioner, so I would expect good results from their other items. It may be worth it to you to try.

However, if the ink has had any time at all to soak in and set, complete removal may not be possible

See if you can locate an Interior Repair Business, not sure what to call them but there's a guy up here where we live that does interior work for accounts and he offers stain removal if we remember correctly. It might be what he's doing is dying stains to match the color of the leather or at least get it close as once ink penetrates 'into' the leather it's pretty hard to convince it to leave on it's own and any cleaning chemical you apply that's strong enough to penetrate 'into' the leather is likely going to alter the appearance of the leather where it's applied.

Once in a while people bring up that modern leather in car interiors is coated with a protective layer and this leads people to believe that they cannot use a leather conditioner or protectant on the leather because the idea is that this coating makes the leather impermeable.

Guess an ink stain "in" the leather shows that this coating doesn't completely "seal" off the leather from the outside world.

While the majority of their products appear to be for dying leather as we also mentioned in our above post as what this guy up here does in his business.

Hair spray will work, but it has to be Aquanet brand. For some strange reason, I have had success with only Aquanet.

You could also try a solvent that 3M makes (adhesive remover) in a red and white can. Unfortunately it is $17.00 a can. You can find it at your local professional auto supply shop. (not sure about stores like pep-boys but I get it from our local paint and glass supply shop)

Leather Master makes a product called Ink Away, I haven't tried it yet, but it might work. They make some pretty good leather products.

I have no idea how people always get sharpie on their leather...Obviously enough people do get ink in their leather such that there would be a market for a specialized ink remover!

I guess it happened yesterday, but I was at work so I came home last night to a message.

The guess on how it happened: The people who had the car before they bought it left a sharpie in the pocket on the back of the seat. From there, their 4 year old got it, drew a smiley face, put the sharpie back, and fell asleep on the way home so they didn't know until later.

I went back down and tried some other stuff, no success. He is probably going to call the MB recycler and see if they have a headrest.

I did however, get blue clothing dye (rubbed off of clothing on to the seat) completely off the front. The top of the seat now is the original, new looking gray and everything else looks brown.

I was going to try that, but they didn't have any and I didn't bring mine (it sounds kind of weird, I know). I guess he needs to go and buy some and give it a shot.
