If I told you I use dove soap diluted in water to clean my leather seats, and pledge to coat all my vinyl surfaces, and the leather seats as well; you would say....?

Re: Pledge and Dove
Wasn't a similar discussion taking place at bobistheoilguy forum? Those guys really need to stick to discussing motor oil and lubricants because, seriously, nobody over there has a clue about paint care.
Anyway, my take on this: dove is a very mild soap and, if diluted, probably wouldn't be a bad alternative to something developed specifically for automotive leather care. But I don't really know for sure. Go ahead and argue that if it's safe to use on human skin how can it be bad for paint, but as far as I know my paint doesn't regularly slough off and renew itself like my (and your) skin does. Pledge can put a nice shine on stuff, but I don't recall it having any UV blockers, and if there are any solvents in it there's a good chance it will, in the long run, dry out the plastic/vinyl in the car and lead to premature failure.
In the final analysis, if you've spent $20,000 (or $30,000 or $50,000 or $90,000) on a car, why would you try to save $1.87 on something that you don't know will really treat your expensive purchase as it should be treated? Hey, I'm all for saving money, but if after three years I've saved a whopping $17.68 on interior maintenance products only to find I need to spend $2500 to replace items that have worn out prematurely, where's the savings?
Now, do I have any solid proof that using these products will lead to early failure of the surfaces they're used on? No, not at all. But I'm not willing to experiment (spelled G A M B L E) just to save the cost of a tank of gas.

More important than that is we cater to people passionate about their cars and this means passionate about doing things right the first time and every time, so using products specifically formulated for the task at hand are the products we would recommend and the products serious enthusiasts would choose to use over other options.
How's that?

Re: Pledge and Dove
yeah, bring some Cheap car wash shampoo from here. you can find it as low as 80 cents per liter.
there are some cheap products here that do work great and not deteriorate, but most of them just lack of quality.
that's why high quality products like meguiars' should be purchased with more frequency so local and national companies improve their quality!
the biggest challenge is to change 80% of the peoples' culture regarding car care and choosing from a high quality product rather than a poor quality product." Sometimes logic is your friend (Mike-In-Orange)"

After thinking about it, I decided it isn't really fraud, it's stealing.

For interior plastic and vinyl, I use Meguiar's Interior Quick Detailer (sorry if I got the name wrong...I'm not at the shop). It isn't greasy or shiney and leaves a nice "new" appearance to the door panels, etc.
