  • My new shop---Progress!

As most of you know I got my new shop and have been working hard to get everything finished by June 1st (my goal). I just figured I would post a few pictures of the progress so far.

Here it is day 1. We were installing the electrical wiring, lighting, and outlets.

    That’s my girlfriends dad, Paul.

    One without him

A picture of the rear lighting

    Breaker box

This one shows all of the electrical and lighting done.

Here is where its at right now. We started painting and were just going to leave some of the defects in the drywall, but it really looked terrible so we filled the holes with joint compound after the first coat of paint and called it a day.

We still need to sand the joint compound and put on a second coat of paint. The final chore will be to tap into the water line on the roof and run a spicket down by my bay door. I will be getting a stationary deionizer system.

More to come, stay tuned! Thanks for looking!

It is big enough to put a full sized suv in and walk all the way around it. I will be moving the stairs also. There is also lots of extra room outside. Jobs at the shop will be by appointment only as I will always be mobile.

        Looks great!

By having a shop it will make it easier and more fun to take on more complex projects just because you'll have control over the environment.

Having clean white walls helps with your before, process and after pictures as it helps to keep the focus on the car, not the walls or things on the wall.

Thanks for sharing your progress with the forum, I'm sure this will inspire a lot of detailers. The trick is getting a shop with low overhead, hope you did good on this part.

Is there any kind of alarm system?

Cool. Are you going to wash cars inside the shop or outside?

Thanks Mike! Yes, the overhead is very low for a facility with water and power. I live in an apartment and I have to rent a 10x20 storage unit anyways to store all of my equipment so this is just a bit more, but with power and water. APX alarm is installing their system on June 1st. The deionizer system will be installed June 4th.

I will be washing outside and hosing down with deionized water.

Ok, got a little more done tonight. I cut and removed the rail bottom to the steps (temporary fix to moving the steps). Got the second coat of paint on the walls and removed the blocks of wood that were nailed to the righthand post (not sure what they were for).

Man, that looks aweful narrow. Is there any way you can move that ladder? Maybe move it to the far back left hand corner?

Maybe it's just the pictures making it look smaller than it really is, but as it looks, doesn't seem like you would be able to open the doors on a vehicle in there.

I will be moving the ladder, but I can open doors like it is. I think the picture makes the space look smaller than it is.

I think you need a lot more fluorescent lights on ceiling and some on sides.

I have to agree with Bunky, Garry. The more lights the better your work will turn out with very little extra effort. I find the job more difficult when I can't see everything clearly. Also makes my muscles sore from having to lean and bend to where I can see the reflection and swirls. I need more lights in my garage for sure, but the halogens work nicely.

What are the dimensions of your shop?
