  • Need HELP ASAP! Please!

Heres my deal. I was detailing a Black Infiniti G35 about 2 years old today. I have done this car a couple times before. The customer has been complaining about there being a haze in the paint which I can see also. I detailed this car about 7 months ago with just the DA. So today I go to detail this car thinking I am going to have to rotary it for sure to get rid of the swirls and the haze thats going on with the car. So I start light and make my way up and end up having to do Diamond Cut with a wool pad on the car to get the deep swirls out. So I did that at about 1400rpm. I then do DAPC with a Polishing Pad at 1400 rpms and the results look pretty good. I do the whole vehicle like that then move to Swirl Free polish with the DA and a finishing pad at speed 5. I pull it outside to look at it and it looks terrible. Still a ton of swirls and buff marks. So I try DAPC, Speed Glaze Swirl Free on the rotary and the DA with all kinds of pads and nothing is making it look better. So I remember on the back of the Diamond Cut, Meguiars recommends that after using Diamond Cut and a wool pad to use DAPC and a cutting pad. So I do that and my results are turning around. So I call Meguiars and ask how I should follow that up and they say DAPC or Swirl Free with a polish pad. So I try both and get good result but not the greatest. I am going back tomorrow morning to finish the car and just wondering if anyone has any ideas or tips with this paint. I am thinking its one of those hard paint jobs that is very easy to scratch. So if you guys can help me that would be great. I am actually heading out the door to a wedding so if you guys have any questions I wouldnt really be able to reply.

P.S. I didnt have time to use the DA after using the rotary and Swirl Free and Polishing pad but I dont thing it would have taken out the buff marks and swirls still left.

    Thanks

From your experience, would you say the paint is hard or soft?

It sounds like it's either one extreme or the other...

For the life of me, I can't even imagine bring a wool pad and M85 down onto a black Infinity G35

But I'm not there so I'll defer to your judgement...

      You could try this,

M84/W-7006/RB 1500 RPM, light pressure to remove any swirls.
M83/W-8006/G100 - Speed Setting 5.0 to remove any M84 Swirls
M82/W-9006/G100 - Speed Setting 5.0 to finish off

Then go to wax... With all products, clean you pads often.

Maybe Joe will chime in if he's had any experience with these paint systems...

I think some pictures would help.... are the scratches/swirls you're seeing more like buffer hollograms, or are they closer to random cobwebbing in appearance?

Also, what toweling are you using? If you have grit on/in your towels (especially MF with embedded grit) you could be reintroducing the scratches that way, also.

Just a couple thoughts to keep in mind.

          I haven't detailed an Infiniti
However, I thought the newer Infiniti's are using a special clearcoat, that have specific requirements for detailing..

First thing i would do is call the Infiniti dealer. or do some online research

I detailed a silver G35 couple a couple of months back. The clear was kind of in the middle, defects didn't fight me too much. The cars was neglected and its owner would wash it on friday and through crappy wax all over it on sunday even though there was lots of pollen al over it. Took me #83 and a W-8000 and W-7000 in spots follwed with 82 with W-8000 or W-9000 (can't remember) achieve a swirl free shine. I was running the buffer ar around 1300-1500 rpmswith the #83 and closer to 1000 with the #82.

I just did a nasty job on an Altima that is outlined in the Extreme Makeover board.

Did you start out with 85 and the wool pad from the begining? When I did this Altima, I used 85 via rotary, then immediately followed up 83 via the G100, followed that up with 80 on the G100.

My suggestion is this Infiniti paint may actually be very workable, but because your using the rotary for every product you apply, its just too aggressive, and you end up deminishing the results of your last step.

Go over the entire car with the G100 and some 83. This will remove the light swirls, and your buffing trails. Then following this up with 80 on the G100. Check your results. I think you might have just gone a little too aggresive.

              Best of luck

This is a copy of the article I found

The newest technological advancement in clearcoat finishes is a fluorine-type clearcoat that needs little or no waxing. Currently available on Nissan Motor Corporation's Infiniti luxury automobile, "no-wax" clear-coats are likely to be available on other cars and from other manufacturers in the future.

The fluorine-type clearcoat finish requires special detailing, especially to correct damage to the clearcoat, and should be treated exactly per the manufacturer's instructions in the owner's manual. Polishing and waxing in the usual detailing sense are not appropriate for these high-tech finishes.

For the Infiniti, the manufacturer outlines particular procedures and brand-name products for buffing out fine scratches in the clearcoat finish and for wet-sanding finish damage that remains after buffing. Because no-wax/minimum-wax finishes are so different from conventional finishes and from most other clear-coat finishes that have been available to date, it is likely that each manufacturer that produces such a finish in the future will also include very specific product and procedure recommendations for its individual formulation of no-wax clearcoat.

Five star? Where did you find this article? Who wrote it? Is it approved by the manufacturer?

Edit:.. since hitting my friend google that fluorine based CC has been around for a while, so chances are it isnt the problem

                          Heres an update:

After trying other combos I choose to do Diamond Cut again with a cutting pad on the rotary at 1000rpms and moving pretty slow. That helped out a lot. I then tried some more combos and ended up using ColorX on the DA and polishing pad at speed of 5 and working the product in good. I then rinsed the car off and did NXT with the DA at speed setting 3. The end result was really nice. Thanks for all the help!

I did take some pictures but they didnt turn out good at all. There was some dirt on the lens so the pictures look bad. Not even worth posting.
