    Re: Carpet cleaning question

I have taken off small amounts of rust with a strong solution of Purple Power. Not sure how that would work in this case but it may be worth a shot. I have also seen a rust remove sold at my Wal-Mart so you could check that. A metal polish worked in very well may also work depending on the severity of the rust.

For removing very dirty spots I allow the cleaner (going to be APC from now on as I just got an order from ADS) to penetrate for a few minutes and will then agitate heavily with a stuff bristled brush. This will usually get 90% of the stain out depending on what the carpet was soiled with.

Ah right! I forgot about a steam cleaner. I would give that a shot if the chemicals are not doing it themselves.

That looks like a fun project 2Slow, it would be great to see some body shots to get and idea of the entire project from start to finish. The interior actually looks pretty good for a carpeted truck from 1996. I like how you guys gutted the interior. I usually do this with every used car I get. It's much easier to do a very good job.

I'm interested to know if you have success with the rust spots in the carpet.

          Good luck and have fun.

Well i went back today to check the carpet out since it was fully dried and theer was still Some spots that looked like we did not even touch. So we soaked it in water followed with apc and this carpet cleaner foam that we had sitting around.. Then a whole lot of scrubbing then off to the car wash for high pressure rinse.. Seems like the dirty water/dirt is never ending Blahhh... Does look a bunch better then it did when we first started
1st picture (as you can see the dirtiest spot was in the back area got pretty clean up front)

You can get a much better/even angle at it by clipping it/hanging it to the floor mat holder thingies... Easier to get a close range shot with the high pressure soap.

I also pre-treated with APC, a brush, then hit it with degreaser, then a high pressure soap, and rinse. I usually run it for 6 minutes per cycle.

                This was before:

                Degreaser:

                Soap:

                After:

                2000 Ford Explorer XLT "Deuce"
                2007 Toyota Camry XLE

                  Looks a world better!

How did that Purple Power solution work 2slow4you? Did you have to use it full strength?

                    Re: Carpet cleaning question

Wink from the grocery store will take the spots out. It will desolve the rust minerals and make them into a neutral color state. Its a strong acid so don't drink it.

Otherwise if you know your ph of the cleaner your using...you can sometimes do it with a penny. Like if the cleaner has a ph of 12 or 13, rub a penny over it and it will pop out with the chemistry of the 2 going after it making a chemical reactions. Usually a cleaner with the ph of like 10-10.5 won't do it.

                        Carpet cleaning

I heard about Drytech carpet cleaning company which is good. Their cleaners provide you with the best advice upon inspecting your carpet. They offer a wide variety of cleaning services whether you need to clean your home, office, mattress, rug and others. I have used their services for my mattress, now my mattress is clean and stain free, there are just awesome!

                          Re: Carpet cleaning question

Think of Carpet and Uph like paint. Its made out of different materials like paint is (like laquer, enamel, poly, etc etc etc, and then the style like a basecoat, bc-cc, or a candy, etc etc etc)

Every one will clean up different as for the different materials...and the different spots, dirt, stains, etc. Using the Megs line is a form of a shampoo in the Carpet Cleaning and Uph world. It can work if know what your doing or to certains degree of expectations level. Think of it like buffing... remember what one person thinks is the worlds greatest and the next person thinks what hackjob that was done.

I have truck mounted and porty machines to clean carpet in autos and trucks with. What everyone forgets in the car world compared to lets say a home setting, is how neglected they really are. Look at a carpet floor mat and power wash it once. Why does dirt and sand keep on coming out of them for 5, 10 heck sometimes even 20 minutes later? Same things goes with cleaners. Some will make them clean up easier, some will make it harder for them to get them to pop if they will pop. I can't talk for the Megs line because I haven't used them in the last 5 years. What I do is take a real formulated "prespray" cleaner (not the grocery store, Home Depot Zep or Walmart stuff) that will release the grunge, grease, dirt, etc off of the materials with ease and hopefully rinse it out with 1-2 passes with an internal jet uph tool. Then after you get the dirt loose and gone, you might have some "Stains" left over.

There are special stain removers on the market that will take out certain of this or that. I have ruffly 60-70 different stain removers sitting in shop for when you need to use it once a year. Like today, I used some special Chemspec Brand POG remover that our standard POG that was made by their competition that popped the stain right out. The difference in these 2 pogs??? The price is double on the Chemspec product and smells like bananas. I haven't used this Chemspec POG in 2 years but made me look like a hero in front of the customer when the last 2 companys said it would never come out.

The same thing goes with most stain removers....like rust removers, dye stains (aka red spots) protein, grease, ink, organic, etc etc etc. Certain brands works like a million, others aren't worth the bottle that they are bottled in. Cetain ones will work on this stain and cetain ones won't but will on others. Hopefully this makes sense.

It really depends on what kind of carpet you're working with. I checked out some carpet tips on the Empire Carpet website. I'm sure that might be able to help out.
