  • Hand Held Vacuum?

I have off/on considered getting a hand held vacuum for "quickie-duty". Each time I've been ready to buy and look at reviews, I get very mixed opinions on the same unit. Some love the Dirt Devil, others claim the exact model to be the worst ever. The same with other manufactuers such as Dyson.

Have any of you had actual experience with any of the popular models? The purchase for me will be car interior use only. Sucking up loose dust in seats and in the console. There would also be a quick brush over the carpets to supplement the weekly trudge to the quarter car wash machines.

I would appreciate any input you may have.

    Respectfully submitted,
    BINGO53

I've been in the same boat for awhile now. Are you thinking cordless or a corded model? I would like to find a cordless one that works well. Now that you brought this to the top of my mind again I'll have to check out reviews on Amazon.

I'd love to hear some hands on reviews here too!

A cordless to have charging in the garage, ready to grab. Its Amazon where I suddenly lose momentum on buying one. I too am hoping someone here that has actually used one can give an objective opinion.

Since you've got a garage with power outlets, I'd suggest skipping the cordless. They're just not nearly as powerful as corded units.

A 1 gallon Shop-Vac and an extension cord on a reel can be grabbed, used and stored pretty quickly. Not quite as quick as a cordless, but pretty quick. It would be much more powerful and you can use it as long as you want.

If you're totally committed to cordless, there's a thread running around somewhere on the Dewalt rechargeable vac. Apparently, it's not too bad.

Very good point, but bottom line, that doesnt work for me regarding a corded. As a matter of fact, I have a very good 5gal shop vac, my set-up just doesnt lend itself to my vehicle care.

Thank you for the Dewalt possibility, I dont believe I've investigated that one yet.

I have an excellent commercial vac too. But I still keep the 1 gallon unit handy for quickie jobs.

I forgot about the Dewalt one! I am pretty sure a friend of mine has one. I'll have to hit him up to let me use it a few times. Will report back if he lets me use it. lol

                    Re: Hand Held Vacuum?

I bought the wife a Dyson portable cordless a few years ago because I was tired of replacing her dust busters so often. After seeing what the Dyson Animal could do in the house compared to her Oreck and old Kirby, I thought lets see what this portable does out in my shop. For minor clean up I was impressed. I have a large Rigid 5 or 6 hp with removable blower in my shop and a smaller rigid vac in the front garage. These do a great job but it sure is easy to grab the Dyson for a small clean up. When it dies I will be picking up another.

                      Re: Hand Held Vacuum?

I talked to my friend today about using his vacuum. It doesn't look like I am going to get to try it anytime soon. He lives in another city and is busy moving.

I did ask him about it and he said it was decent for cleaning out a car. His only complaint was that it filled up fast and the filter needed to be cleaned often. It's hard to tell a run time since it's on and off so much but he guessed about 10-15 mins with NiCd batteries. If I had other cordless Dewalt tools it might not be a bad buy but a battery and charger cost more than the vacuum. lol

                        Thanks Scott!
Im remembering why I keep losing traction on this purchase, just depends on which review one chooses to deem credible. If I had other Dewalt cordless tools, Id definitely put it on the short list.

Here is where Im looking now......DirtTamer Ultima V2510 Cordless Wet/Dry Hand Vac. Anyone here ever owned one of these?

Walmart sells a hand held vacuum made by Black and Decker. It's like $59.99. It's called Flex. I use it to touch up in my girlfriends car and mine. It works pretty good.
