  • Do I need to hit this more than once with 83?

I can not feel this. The white spots. When I run my fingernails across it it is smooth.
Now that I have the DA I will go over it with #83. Now do I do this multiple times? I have done it once. I ran DA until I thought it was broken down. I could still swipe my finger through it. Temps were in the mid 40's. I just need time to do this. Thanks all!!!

For some reason the pic failed to show up. It's in my gallery. Maybe I did not do something right.

I can never find anyone's pictures in the gallery. I was able to right click on your thumbnail, get the properties, copy the link, paste it, remove the "thumbnail" part, and look at the picture. That is where the bad news starts. Is that factory paint? Either way, I'm not sure it's going to get any better from polishing. That looks to me like the clearcoat is starting to fail.

I think it under the CC since I cannot feel a thing. Now this car sits outside. It has 100K miles, former road warrior. I live in the Midwest so the sun in Summer gets pretty intense on the paint. Been looking for a used hood, cannot find a black one. I find white, red, silver but no black. Thanks.

Following your tip I did the same thing to get a good look at the picture and, unfortunately, I agree: it sure looks like the clear coat is indeed failing. Unfortunately there isn't much of anything you can do about this, short of a repaint.

Here's the link to the picture:

What about the bigger white circles though? Are those rock chips or something? It almost reminds me of M83 splatter.

To tell the truth, I really dont know about this one. You could give M83 a whirl, but to me it looks like the clearcoat is shot.

I think those white spots are stone chips given that we are looking at the leading edge of the hood.

Now I'm curious, ok, here is a dumb question:

Did the finish look like this BEFORE you tried M83?

On my first attempts with 80 and 83, I had stubborn, hard to remove particles left after trying to remove them, and it looked very similar to what we are seeing in that picture. Of course, I was able to get it off easily with some QD and a microfiber, but I digress.

So, you are sure those blemishes are the clearcoat, not bonded polish?

to me that looks like like microblisters in the clear...has it been repainted ever??

the white dots are polish sitting in tiny craters

i used to paint cars for the last 16 yrs....that happens when too much clear is put on in one go, or its baked too hot

Thanks guy's. I have never had it painted. There are signs that it has been by prior owner. Look real close and there are what I think are sand marks.
What does it cost to repaint the hood? Been on the look out for a used hood. There are some stone chips from life on the road.
