  • G110 w/W9006 left fine scratches

    Guys,

Applied some NXT 2.0 with my new G110 and 9006 pad to my silver BMW
and noticed fine scratches that were not there before starting. Should I
use the least aggressive Maybe M9 with a 8006 pad and remove the
wax and start over to see if it gets better or will the 8006 be a better
    option for the final wax?

    Thanks,
    Wig

It's not normal that applying wax would install scratches on your paint. So, could you describe your process to see what went wrong?

Yes you can use M09 to remove those fine scratches and re-wax, but again try to tell in a very descriptive way your process and to see how those scratches got there.

The car was washed and completely dried. Applied NXT 2.0 to the W9006 outside edges. Use setting 3 and worked the wax using 3 passes as I learned from the video and waited over 30 Min. then removed the wax with a microfiber. I hand waxed the car two months ago with NXT and it was perfect but wanted to try my replacement G110. It looks good but I know the fine scratches are there beacuse there visible at the right angle.

      Thanks,

Did the car sit outside while you were waiting for the wax to cure?

That combination would not leave scratches unless the pad was contaminated, the paint surface was contaminated (Wind blow dust or dirt onto it after you washed and dried it, etc), or (and probably the most likely) you had the scratches but didn't see them until you got the wax on there.

It's hard to even remove light scratches with a PC and the intended products, so to think you used a non-abrasive product with a non-abrasive finishing pad to introduce scratches sounds impossible without contamination.

          Have some pics?

It could also be that you were using a towel that had some form of dust that scratched the paint while you were removing the wax.

Very unusual to see the combination of NXT 2.0 and a W9006 pad causing any sort of marring. What speed was the G110 set at (should be 3)? How much pressure did you use (should be really no more than the weight of the machine)?

Used correctly on a a clean car with a clean pad NXT by machine and a W-8006 nor a W-7006 foam pads are not going to instill any scratches.

This combination might clear up the surface to the point to reveal already present scratches but it's not going to instill or inflict scratches.

Need to trouble shoot further to figure out the true root cause.

It possibly could have been the wind blowing some dirt on the finish
as I was detailing, since it get windy here in England even though I use
UQD before waxing to ensure the surface is free from contaminates. I
guess I'll have to rent a space at the hobby shop for future polishing and
waxing! The silver finish really pops after two coats of wax.

Re: G110 w/W9006 left fine scratches

My guess is the micro fiber bonnet. I left one sitting around after removing #21 or Cleaner/Wax and it got quite stiff. Of course, I washed it and it's now ready for use. But, if it had only been a small spot of roughness, I might not have caught it and I'm sure that could scratch the paint some.

If it were airborn contaminates it would not be uniform, unless your pad picked it up and held it. Even then, you would tend to pick up more as you go and the scratches would get worse.

Wig, you can save yourself a little money by using Last Touch for QD before waxing.

Sounds like your micrfiber caught something in thrweave and instilled the scratches.

I actually wiped the wholecar down w/ UQD and each panel again before
applying the 2.0. Indoors will be the best option here in the UK with the
                        amount of wind and dust.
