  • G220 (EU) Polisher not rotating at low speeds?

    Hey guys,

I have been lucky enough to get my hands on one of the first batch of G220 units to be made available in New Zealand. I have a question about the 'action' of the machine:

At speed settings lower than about 4.5, the pad doesn't rotate if more than "just the weight of the machine" is applied. At speeds under 3, it won't rotate unless I actually support the weight of the machine slightly...

(I've marked the backing plate so I can check the revolutions of the pad)

The unit definitely keeps oscillating, and there doesn't sound like there is any 'strain' on the motor or anything like that.... and at Speed 5 on, the machine works exactly as expected.

So - I was wondering if this is 'normal'?

...or is it possible that the 'clutch' in the unit that stops rotation if too much weight is applied needs adjusting/replacing?

It kind of goes like this.
To remove swirls/scratches (defects) you would use your machine on speed setting 5
To apply wax you use speed setting 3

Your working speed range goes from 3 to 5.

What are you trying to accomplish?
Are you applying wax? Using a cleaner/polish?

That doesn't sound right. I have only worked with the G110 but the performance should be the same when the appropriate energy is supplied to the tool.

Tomorrow I'll be in the office and I'll double check a new G110 to what you listed above as a test and then tell you what happens.

      Hang tight....

        Both

I've tried the machine with M80 (on both W9006 and W8006 pads) normally 'spreading' the product at about speed 3-4 before upping it to 5 to work it.

Also, used it to apply Sealant/Glaze with another W9006 pad at about speed 3.

But my question isn't, "I'm not getting the results I expected", it's more a case of, "I'm not sure if the machine is operating properly". (as a matter of fact, I've seen some fantastic results with it so far!)

        Thanks for your input though!

I hate to pester... and I'm sure that I can't even begin to comprehend how overwhelmed with requests you must get, but have you had a chance to check the 'action' at low speeds on the G110/G220 yet Mike?

...I just finished up my first vehicle with it yesterday, and even if it is 'slightly' aberrant in it's behavior, the D/A gave outstanding results!

...you can even see my modest collection of product!

          Thanks in advance!
          Ian.

Hi 6FIEND, Another Aucklander, I managed to get my habds on one of the first batch of those polishers as well, they do a great job but I've managed to chew through my first set of brushes already so it's out of action till next week.
Thats a great reflection in your door, Which wax did you finish with?

You did achieve some awesome reflections with a potentialy defective machine. Your work looks great.
