  • DA Worth it for casual user?

Guys I wanna power polisher but twice/year use tool @$120+ doesn't sit well with the accountant of the house. Women!

Once I bought an el cheapo polisher and it vibrated so bad that for sure I thought arthritis-city and promptly unloaded it on eBay.

So my question is, if comfort of handling is paramount, do the Meguiar's tools pass the test or can I spend less somewhere else? Again, am gonna use it twice/year, so durability not critical.

I mean, it has an oscilating head, so it definately vibrates some.

You been working by hand so far, or just starting out? Or certain goals for the car, such as defect removal?

On a side note, you could possibly go to Lowes/Home Depot, that kind of store, and ask if you can "try out" and plug in a Porter Cable model 7424 or 7336. They are like the old G100.

Could check the prices of them as well.... I have no idea what they cost these days.

^good point. You might as well have the best. i just bought the G110 for $149.00 and it was well worth it. to do my car all by hand would have taken me two months and the results woulnd't have been half as good.

I would get one by all means. They are a time saver, arm saver. They produce a consistent finish and are very user friendly.

            Good luck with the accountant.

I would get one for sure! Not only you have to use it for a complete detail, you can use it every time you apply wax or other purposes.

With it you'd save lots of time and the results you'd get are by far better, think about it!

I say get the G110 DA. You won't regret it. I got mine a month ago and I love using it. I bought just to work on my car and now I want to get some #151 so I can tackle my wifes Trailblazer.

Check out ADS, they have some good G110 deals going.

Odds are, if you get a G110 you will work with it a lot more than twice a year. One of the benefits of the tool is that it makes the "job" of waxing your vehicle so much easier, more fun, and quicker that you end up being more motivated to do it often.

Well, at least it works that way for me (My truck used to be 2.5 hours for a FAST wash and wax, with the Meguiar's DA I was able to do a total wash and wax in 1 hour)

If you want to remove things like swirls and scratches get our G110 as it has more power than the Porter Cable units and the first 5 minutes into any swirl removing session you'll learn real fast to appreciate this feature.

The "Hot Topics" forum has almost 120 "Hot Topic" threads, that is questions that come up s often they are "Hot Topics"

Here's an example from Hot Topics

Will I notice a difference if I use the G-100

Note the above was written when we sold the Porter Cable unit with our Badge on it, so everything in the above article still applies but with our new G110 you have more power.

Clear coat paints tend to be difficult to remove swirls and scratches out of, just read this forum for any length of time and you'll see that a majority of threads on this forum deal with removing defects out of the paint and the frustration people experience when trying to remove defects out of the paint.

This difficulty and frustration has led to a huge change in our industry of people that normally work by hand moving up to machine polishing.

                    Summary,

If you just want to spread out a layer of wax then work by hand. You already own a hand.

If you want to remove swirls, scratches, etchings, etc. then get a G110

Dang it takes me 2.5 hours just to wash my truck. I guess mine is just bigger. 2 hours for the Nitro.

I have been wanting to get one as well but my wife says I can't get one yet either. Maybe we need to go in halves and mail it back and forth. . .

The thing is with the Nitro I don't need one because there aren't any swirls because I had learned how to take care of it before we got it.

My truck (which she doesn't drive) on the other hand is full of swirls and I need something to remove them (young and naive detailing days - bath towels, dish soap, Wal-Mart sponge, and cheap car wash/wax combination)

Re: DA Worth it for casual user?

                        Glad i found this thread.

If i'm just using it to apply wax, why cant i buy one of those cheapo ones at Wal Mart?

I was thinking of purchasing the G110 but it is alot of money. Maybe i can use it to remove scratches on friends' cars and charge them $100? But then i would also have to purchase different pads and different products.

PC or the G110 is well worth it to have.

                            Perfectly fine.

Spreading out a layer of wax and removing swirls and scratches, (which means removing a little paint), are completely different things and any inexpensive traditional orbital buffer will spread out a coat of wax.

We have a lot of enthusiasts go through our Saturday class, move up to machine cleaning and polishing and go on to detail cars as a hobby...

I plan on buying one. it's worth it, the results can be amazing, and it saves you alot of time and gives you better result than strictly by hand. as an accountant, I say it's worth it
