  • Purchasing G110

So Im ready to step up and purchase a g110. I will be purchasing it from ADS since they have hands down the best deals ive found. Im mainly looking into removing some medium to light swirls, and have read that the #83 -#80 combo works wonders.. The kit I will be getting will be coming with m205 ultra finishing polish. My question is should I just go for the 105/205 combo since it will come with a sample of the 205 already? or go 83/80? It comes with 2 polishing pads and 1 finishing pads. Is there anything else I would need to get? pad conditioner or what not. Im trying not to break the $200 mark. I will also be using it to wax. will i need another pad for that or can I just use the finishing pad...
Here is the kit im looking to buy, if theres another kit that would suite me better please let me know... Thanks for taking your time to read this

Yes. The SMAT Team of M105/M205 is a great combo and will tackle most anything that comes you're way. You don't want to mix and match products onto the same pads so make sure you have plenty of pads and have a pad dedicated for nothing buy your favorite wax or paint sealant.

i dont know what SMAT is. hard to follow up on all these acronyms haha. im not trying to get too too crazy atleast not now because my pocket doesnt allow it. so i cant really buy products to test them. thats exactly what i like to hear Mr. Mike. i knew that combo was great, just wanted to assure myself that its an all around great combo not just specifically for one job.
so be it, i will be purchasing some m105 also to play with. now that i have 2 pads 2 different compounds... what would the finishing pad be for? applying a pure polish or glaze? should i buy a few more finishing pads for applying waxes, im stuck on gold class and nxt. theyre awesome products
also do i get the lifetime if i purchase thru ADS or do i have to purchase it directly through Meguiars?

Rookie question, on a scale, which combo would be used to attack light to medium swirls/marks ect and which would be used for a slightly worse or deeper scenario - The #80/#83 combo or #105/#205? Moreless wondering which combo would be more suitable for light swirl jobs...

SMAT = Super Micro Abrasive Technology
            DAT = Diminishing Abrasive Technology

As far as combos... and this is just a general scale only to these products:

#83/#80 would go medium to light.

#105/#205 would go heavy to light.

Where the exact overlap is would be hard to say. Whichever combo you chose, you would do a test spot/area with #80 or #205 first, and see if that removes your swirls. If not, then you would go to the stronger product.

              Re: Purchasing G110

so with my yellow W8207 Foam Polishing Pad. i can use 1 pad for m105 and the other pad for m205? just making sure the pads and polish would work and that im not mix matching them around using wrong pad with wrong polish. as for the black finishing pad would that be used for applying a wax? do i have to add anything on top after using M205 with a pure polish to get more depth and shine? or can i go straight to using wax?
sorry for all the newbie questions my g110 should be coming in tomorrow, and im thinking of skipping dinner when i get home to go have some fun in the garage. but before i do id like to get everything right before i start

              thanks in advance

                Re: Purchasing G110

For what its worth, #105 and #80 would be fine as well.

And yes, all of those products would want their own polishing pads. And for real defect removal on an entire car, you might really want 2 or 3 pads per product. You can just do a mild cleaning with one pad per product.

The finishing pad would be for waxes.

The cutting pad could be used with a MF bonnet over it for removing waxes.

You could use something like #7 after #205, but it would not be required.

yah maybe i can post up some pics of my first swirl remover. ive messed with my $15 dollar polisher ive got from walmart and took out a few swirls with some compound i had laying in the garage. i even wet sanded with 2000 grit just to try to get the scratch a little lower so what i had would work. i can only imagine what the g110 will do! yah i detailed a friends car this past weekend. waxed by hand. and yah... it *****. ive always used my little buffer to help apply the wax so it wasnt bad. but by doing it by hand... it blows hahah, but its good to know how to have some "passion" behind the wrist to be able to do things by hand

ok i got my polisher last night and it does wonders! im in love. anyways i have a question. i got some 7" yellow foam pads with my kit. when i was using my pad on my black motorcycle i noticed it was starting to shoot out yellow debris from the pad. nothing majoy just looked like dust. my initial theory was that maybe cause i was working on it and tilted it a little to get a little more cut with the outer parts of the pad with the 205. maybe cause i dont have a flexible backplate therefore causing the pad to break off.. i have no cuts in the pad as far as i can see. just wondering if this was normal. thanks again for all the help ive aquired here at MOL
can someone give me the answer im looking for.. thank you.

Do you clean your pad on the fly? I find that mine dusts on the edges sometimes and I run it on speed 5 (my G100) and put a soft toothbrush against it as it spins and knock off any dried up product, it doesn't work the greatest and seen as it's dual action, stops the pad from rotating but it helps.....

It's normal for new pads to shed a little bit. You may also have caught a sharp edge on something and shaved a bit off.

yah thats what i figured was it was a new pad.. and since it was on the rear seat cowl and i taped it off... figured maybe caught some tape that wasnt holding up too well anymore. and yah i clean my pad. i would grab a towel and mist the pad with water then shove it into the towel haha. i saw a post about it on here. works great!
thanks for the info guys. i just wanted to make sure i wasnt doing anything wrong... i tried to keep it as flat as possible but on a bike theres just too many lines. something id rather do by hand, but it was all i had clean at the moment. didnt wanna start washing my truck at 11pm at night... will try it tomorrow again. just have to find a victim! have a great weekend guys!
