resizing 6 1/2" pads

has anyone cut down the 6 1/2" pads to 5 1/2" ?
if so how did u do it , did they work ok?

I tried with an older one that I had, I found it to be quite difficult to get it at a 90 degree cut to the cutting surface, possibly with a band saw and a fine toothed blade, I could see it possible.

Do you have a rotary?

First, mount a smaller backing plate and attach the pad. Then, mount the rotary with the pad facing down. I used a box cutter, but an exacto also works. Turn on the rotary and press the knife into the pad (you are doing this from the top of the rotary and not cutting from the bottom). This should not be very difficult if the knife is sharp.

shouldn't really have any problems, there are a number of manufacturers out there that have squared off pads, instead of the rounded edges that the Megs pads come with.

I resized some 8" pads to make them 6" pads (or so) and cut them with an xacto knife and used sand paper on my rotary to round them. Works great and I got a wee bit more off of one of the polishing pads and it's a smidge smaller than 6" and they work great!
