  • What after M80?

    Guys,

I have a 08 BMW and spent 7 hours tryingto removing very fine swirls or scratches due to constant blowing of dirt and sand here in England even with a dirt guard. I did remove half of them with two applications. Would the M205 be the next step with my G110?

    Thanks,
    Wig

That depends on if you are satisfied with the results or not. If you are not satisfied then you might want to go with say SwirlX which has more cutting power. If you are satisfied with the results, then you can eather put a polish on or your favorite wax.

Well, it depends upon what you have at your disposal. Since you started with M80 and may like the way it worked and car are comfortable with it, you might just want to step up to M83 but can I be so bold as to make another suggestion?

What you SHOULD have done (instead of working for 7 hours and finding out the results were not exactly what you wanted) was to tape off a few "test spots" and figure our which process was yielding you the exact result you wanted.

Tape off a spot, hit it with M83, or M205, or M105 or whatever you think you need to get you to where you need to be and see if it works. If you are working an 18" x 18" area, you won't spend more than a few minutes finding out what works.

As for the M80, M205 question... I think they have the same amount of cut, so you probably want to step up to something stronger. Since you used M80 which has diminishing abrasives, you might want to continue to M83 which uses the same technology, to keep things consistent.

        Re: What after M80?

I use #80 as a light finishing polish on polishing pad. It's not very aggressive and leaves the look of #7,I love 80.

I don't know how much more you need to cut, or how good a job 80 did with your two passes. But after trying 205, I would think it was a bit more aggressive then 80. But they use differ abrasives, so I guess this varies depending on how it is being used.

I would "being blindfolded" say, try DACP or 205 with a polishing pad, for a little more bite!

          Wig,

I'm not 100% sure what you are asking, so I want to get clarification before responding.

Are you saying that M80 was insufficient for removing some of the defects and you want something MORE aggressive?

Or are you suggesting you want to further refine the surface?

            Mark Kleis,

You are spot on with your question. This was the only day I had to detail my car with the G110 and I even begged the wife for one of our vacations days due to my schedule and limited time to do any seriuos detailing. My Garage here in England is very small and wouldn't be possible to do any work there. It looks better but under close examination you can still see some light scratches from blowing sand and dirt. So, I think I will need the next step up in aggressiveness. Hopefully, I want have this problem with I return back to the states in Jan because I will have a garage and will detail to my hearts content.

            Thanks,
            Wig

              Hi Wig!

Ok, you have several choices. If you think it only needs a low to moderate amount of extra cut, and you are familiar with the way M80 looks, feels, and works, then you may want to give trusty M83 a shot. It is a bit more aggressive, but works very similarly. It should also be relatively inexpensive all things considered.

You will likely (but not for 100% sure) need to follow the M83 with M80 as it can leave slight marring only detectable in the right lighting. M80 will remove what M83 leaves behind with ease!

Aside from that, you could also give M105 a shot, but that is significantly more aggressive and a bit more pricey. Try the M83 --> M80 and do a test spot, then check back if it isn't quite enough yet.
