  • Just a Quick Comparision between the G110V2 and PCXP

The G110V2 is quieter then the PC-XP and PC. It is not a huge amount and not enough that it would really change my mind about purchasing either of them over the other. It is noticeable however.

The G110V2 vibrates less then the PC-XP (which I found to vibrate more then the original PC) and less then original PC. Again not a huge difference, but perhaps more important then the sound. It really is smoother.

Power, the G110V2 and are pretty close , with one small difference. The V2 'throttles up' when it senses bog so it seems to cut a little more when the going gets rough. I think the G110V2 offers a little more, but not a HUGE amount. The difference isn't so much that I would buy one over the other just because of this, but once again it is advantage G110.

Fit and Finish: G110V2 is the nicest looking/feeling ROB I have owned. By far... I should add that for me (because function is most important) this means nothing, but it is a handsome machine. If this is important to you, then you have your choice (at least to my taste).

Operation: G110V2's dial is far more sensitive feeling then XP's, with each notch on the dial feeling extremely different. No more crazy jumps in power.

So at the end of the day: For the simple fact that it vibrates less and works slightly better in all regards to the PC, I would choose the G100V2. My only concern is that Porter Cable does have one of the stellar names in tool manufacturing. Given all of the advantages of the G110V2, and Meguiar's excellent reputation for making things right, I am very comfortable in choosing to use G110V2. The PC-XP will serve as an excellent back up tool in case the G100V2 has any problems: And that ain't bad

If I needed a DA, I'd look at the PC-XP first and the G110v2 second. Mainly because of the Porter Cable name and the 3 year warranty. It appears the performance of these machinces is very similar, so the extra warranty would be the driving factor in my decision. Plus, you can pickup a PC-XP for a little less than a G110v2 (for now at least).

    Thanks for the write-up, Todd!

Both the PCXP and the 110V2 are the same price at Amazon. 149.99. Both are currently in stock as of Dec 23, 2009.

I bought the PCXP berfore realizing that they also had the new 110V2 in stock. It's arriving today, but I'm sorely tempted to buy the 110 as well... though these are only for my personal use on my vehicles. (Love new toys!)

Todd, thanks for that quick comparison between the two machines - it is very much appreciated!

Don't forget that the G110V2 comes with a W68DA backing plate (retail value in excess of $30) and that nifty Meguiar's logo'd canvas bag that can carry the tool (with backing plate and handle attached), a couple of pads and a bottle or two of liquid.

That, and Mannheim auctions has been beating on several G110v2s for quite some time now (literally hundreds of hours per machine) without a hiccup.

If warranty length is driving decision why not just go for one with lifetime one, like Griot's?

After all it you can not get warranty that is longer than lifetime

Unless you are detailing your trunk on a steep incline when your 3 year old daughter, who is playing in the car, shifts the car into neutral. Oh, did I say that out loud?

Well, for starters the Meguiar's machine is in a different (higher) league than the Griots machine as it was engineered to do more. I'm not knocking the Griot product - just pointing out that the G110v2 is a very potent machine.

Aside from that, it likely has to do with Meguiar's wanting to keep costs down so the product can be as affordable as it is. If I were to guess, I would also guess that the average Griot's buffer owner uses their machine not nearly as often, nor do they demand as much as the typical Meguiar's user.

Meguiar's products are often used to help make a living...day in and day out. They are abused and used hard - with Griot not marketing as much to that crowd it is easier and cheaper for them to offer a longer warranty.

Thanks for the write up Todd. Looks like I will be getting the G110v2 in February.

I've had nothing but success with my G110. After some technical difficulties at the very beginning, the machine has stood up to numerous details and touch ups (this coming from a non pro who just likes to make things shine!) and with all the beating that I've given it, it still runs like a champ.
Come tax time, I'm seriously considering getting the v2 after reading a ton of reviews, none seemed negative at all.
Now the tough part will to get my intentions past the wifey!

Would I be correct to assume that you were not personally involved in engineering of neither G110V2 nor of Griot's V2, nor even ever used Griot's V2, to be able to say which one was engineered to do more?

At almost twice the amps of G110V2 so is Griot's. And they do deliver. Speaking from hands on experience.

Please allow me to point out that G110V2 with one year warranty costs $20-45 more than Griot's with lifetime warranty. Cost might be down but the price is obviously not, quite the opposite.

Without having exact customer survey I personally would not be making any guesses. If I were to make any wild guesses I would venture to guess that both vendors have approximately equal amount of customers that are gentle on their tools. Just take a look at Meguiar's Saturday classes and Thursday garages and count how many of those that are not part of "support staff" are professionals.

Yes, I know I have significantly reduced amount of posting as I realized much higher priorities are waiting on me and that is OK as there is a number of people that can assist in rehashing of basics, so I leave it to them and post only when I feel gross incorrection needs straightening out.

I just received my G110 v2 and am looking forward to using it over the holidays. I ramped it up for the first time last night and immediately felt some of the throttle-up as I turned the polisher over. It kinda felt like a gyroscope.
